Sears low rider trailer cart refurbish

Recommended Posts

One of my most used implements is a non dumping low rider Sears garden tractor trailer.  Most recently, one of the wheels has developed a leak.  I've noticed that the side walls on the tires are cracking, so time to replace them.  I'm  planning on using 4.80x8 boat trailer tires.  The box of the trailer has several fatigue cracks, the axle is sagging, and the tailgate opening on the trailer does not fit the tailgate very well.

I have the thought that this would be a good time to convert to trailer huhubs.  This triggers project growth.  That means a new axle.  As long as a new axle is going on, might as well address the fatigue cracks and straighten out and reinforce the tail gate opening.  The welding and metal work will create the need to repaint the cart.  Might want to think about making it a dumper, too.

While I am gathering parts and supplies, I'll patch or replace the offending tube to get it back into service.

Pictures to follow.  This project won't be a quick one, but I should be able to finish it up before @ebinmaine gets Colossus done or @Pullstart finishes his Wheel Horse dump truck. :teasing-poke:

Sounds like a cool conversion.

I have pressure treated pole trailer here I'll be adding a heavier axle to sometime.

If you're interested I can show pics of how I plan to get that done.

Sure.  I'm not shy about copy, er, rather, being inspired by other folks ideas.

Somewhere back in my YouTube channel several years ago there's a short video about my 17 CU FT dumping trailer.

I'll get some information and maybe put a video together about the both of them.
