UNBOUND 58 #1 Posted June 2 Changing trans fluid in my Raider 14. The drain plug is rounded and cant remove. I am having to suck it out and may not get it all. Plan on filling with diesel, drive it around some, drain it, refill with diesel, drive it , drain and fill with lube. Will the small amount of diesel left in there hurt anything? The drain plug is 1/4 allen, correct? That what I used and it just slips.
ebinmaine 71,763 #2 Posted June 2 Diesel is a lubricant of sorts but I'd want to get as much of that out of there as possible. There's a hump in the middle of the inside of these cases so there's going to be some fluid left over in the front. There's a drain plug on the bottom as you know. There is sort of a fill plug at the left rear of the case on the side. Raise the front of the tractor as much as you can SAFELY do so with a tilt favoring that direction. Proceed as planned..... I would change the fluid multiple times and I would also raise the tractor every single time.
Achto 29,223 #3 Posted June 2 32 minutes ago, UNBOUND said: The drain plug is 1/4 allen, correct? That what I used and it just slips. I have used a Torx bit to remove a rounded out Allen. Find a Torx that is just a bit bigger than the rounded out socket. Drive the bit in with a hammer as far as it will go. Sometimes this will be enough bite to get the plug out. 1
Horse Newbie 7,315 #4 Posted June 2 If Achto’s remedy doesn’t work, drill out the Allen head plug, a bit smaller than its diameter. Use an “Easyout”, or screw extractor to back it out. I have actually drilled out most of such screw/ plugs and collapsed the screw in upon itself. Chase the threads in the drain hole with a tap. Then do as Eb says…
UNBOUND 58 #5 Posted June 2 I have used torx several times with success but cant seem to find the one I need. Its here somewhere, just need to find it. 2

UNBOUND 58 #7 Posted June 2 Found my t45 which is what I needed and got it out. When I fill it do I fill until it runs out the plug on the side or go by the dip stick. I ask because when I put the diesel in it, it ran out the plug but nothing showed on dipstick. I would assume dip stick would be correct. But I have read on certain sites that you fill until it runs out of plug.

Just put in 2 quarts in any manual transmission and you're fine.
