Easton Rich 605 #1 Posted May 23 This is my 653 I just acquired today, yep not much here but just wait. Why did I get it? I don’t really know, but it’s cool and I like round hoods. Follow along as it gets nut and bolt restoration, and I will finally have a trailer queen! Pictures when the rain passes
Easton Rich 605 #2 Posted May 23 The motor is a K181 which is going on. As you see it needs fenders and a gas tank, I have a wanted ad in the classifieds so pm me if you’ve got something. This will be a longer build so stick with me!

Will enjoy watching the restoration process. I like the round hoods too! I have a 654 which is my "working" tractor. I mow & plow snow with it. Its cool when people drive by as Im out working it & I get horn blows w/thumbs up! Its not perfect but it really would be a great candidate for a proper restoration. My 753 is a show tractor. Got a couple RJs & a Suburban too. I'll look cause I may have fenders. I'm starting to lose track of what all I have anymore.........🙄

Easton Rich 605 #5 Posted May 24 Weird question, why did my shifter COME OUT when I tried to shift into gear and it turned in a 360?

Part number 1239. Screws into the front of the tranny case and the pin goes in that hole in the shifter ball.
Easton Rich 605 #7 Posted May 24 I’ll check, I was just messing with it to see if it would go into gear because the rear end is LOCKED UP. Thanks
Easton Rich 605 #8 Posted May 25 If any of you have an old round hood with a fuel tank let me know! @Chris G might have me covered for fenders

Easton Rich 605 #10 Posted May 26 Yeah, that’s what I’m missing. The stud with the jam nut. Thanks!
Easton Rich 605 #11 Posted June 11 Well back on this turd now that I got everything running for this season (I hope). Guess what I found in the pile of parts I got with the tractor? That little jam nut! I’ve got that jank start 8hp Briggs off and my cut fuel tank along with my dash tower. Ive got three questions, 1 How long are these spindles supposed to be? 2. What’s the best way to get this steering wheel of the shaft? 3. How do you get these food board off? I know I know you want pictures
Easton Rich 605 #12 Posted June 11 For those who don’t believe me when I say they cut the fuel tank, I mean they literally chopped the other half. Is this Briggs that came off worthy of fixing? It’s not locked up and it’s complete. If any of you are interested let me know
Easton Rich 605 #13 Posted June 12 What is the stock model number for this tranny?

Easton Rich 605 #16 Posted June 12 But I didn’t know if there were any differences between them
Handy Don 13,683 #17 Posted June 15 Interesting re-power to the B&S 8 and the sacrifice of the fuel tank! That would have had a Lausen/Tecumseh 6hp electric start when new with the tank sticking out of the rearward part of the hood.
Easton Rich 605 #18 Posted Monday at 01:14 AM Yes. I still can’t seem to find a tank
Handy Don 13,683 #19 Posted Monday at 04:10 PM 14 hours ago, Easton Rich said: Yes. I still can’t seem to find a tank There are two flavors of this tank. A one-piece from 61-62 and a two-piece (like the cut one in your picture) from 63-64. The early one needs a separate dashboard and the latter has the dash built in. Clearly, the tank on your 653 was cut to accommodate the shape of that bulky B&S with the attached fuel tank. They are not all that hard to find. Put a “want” in the classifieds and post your interest in the Big Show buy & sell thread.
