standard was a valve under the dash to switch on the one-gallon “reserve” when the car started to run out

The tricky part was remembering to move the valve back from reserve after filling the tank.   :confusion-shrug:  Only ran out completely once, my cousin used the Bug and had to go to reserve but foregut to tell me, she never did that again. As a matter of fact we laughed about that the other day.

First I've seen that dash Don. I actually like it.

I picked up a 702 one piece tank earmarked for a leaky two piece tank when my 854 ship comes in...yah you @Mike'sHorseBarn ! :ychain:

It had a home made dash that was some what respectable but I would go with a wood one. I would have to have @formariz cut it out tho I'm not much of a wood worker.

What species is it? Looks like red oak?

Put an ad in the wanted classifieds, maybe you'll get lucky. I know you have one, but I might sell the 1045.

Not a new world record yet but the words amp and volt haven't been used for over a dozen responses to this post. If we try real hard may be able to establish a new record for the most :offtopic:replies to a single post.  Come-on,  we can do it,  I know we can!

EB's fault he ALWAYS goes off topic ... yah that's it... EB's fault...:)

OK so back on. I have two of these now and love them. Not exactly orginal but both on customs. Seem to be fairly accurate and holding up well.

On a 602 ... a 502 with a H60 repo...the Tecky two diode charging system will run battery voltage up to 16 volts and this gauge monitors it nicely. Just flip on the bug eyes when it does and voltage drops down to 13 volts.

Had to relocate the bug eye switch.

How many AMPS do you have flowing when the VOLTAGE reads 13 and 16 volts? :teasing-poke::teasing-poke:

My C100 will show 15.2volts and only pushing about 2.5 amps.

Ok so let me ask a question because I'm electrically stupid. Is it the 15.2 volts that will cook the battery, or would it be a higher amount of amps?

The regulator is holding 15-15.2, the battery is only accepting about 2 amps to hold it there.  It hits 12amps after starting to raise voltage from 11 to 14.5 then amperage quickly drops as it nears target voltage...basically my tractors static running draw is about 2 amps, thats what the regulator pushes to hold voltage.  Now, ~15v is definitely in the upper limit of what a 12v battery and coil, etc like to see, my battery never vents or feels hot, and its at least 7 years old.  My 416 Onan pushes 14v and about 2 amps as well.

A battery with alot of internal resistance will command amps without spiking the volts and that can hurt them, or hitting 15.5+ can cause alot of heat.  Id like mine to be 14.8 but its working well at 15.1 so ill leave it be.

Volts is "Electrical Pressure"  Amps is " Amount of electricity.

Think of a garden hose. You have say 100 psi at the faucet. You install a 1/2' diameter water hose. you turn it on and fill a 5 gal pail. The water will come out really fast velocity wise and it will take x many of seconds to fill the pail. Now install a 2" fire hose and do it again. The water will be a lot slower velocity wise but the pail will fill faster
