C160 Flywheel Cover

Recommended Posts

vacuum

Can anyone advise me where I might find a flywheel cover for my 1974 C160?  If this is not the right section my apologies.

I just acquired a 1974 C160 8-speed (kohler).  Everything works great and I look forward to improving the appearance little by little.  This forum has been a lot of fun to read.

This is my first tractor of any type and was happy to pull the trigger because of all the great things I've read on here.  I will post pics at some point.

Go right into the vendors section and contact K&B Wheel Horse parts or A-Z Wheel Horse parts.

I meant to ask before...

Why do you need one?

I bought a 1977 C-160 about a year ago.

I’m going through it now giving it some needed attention.

I also have a 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 and a 1994 520H that I refreshed.

Looking forward to seeing pics…

You can post a “wanted” ad in our classified’s as well as checking with the vendors already suggested.

The one that is on there is a retrofitted screen that houses over, and sticks out like a tophat.  It works so there is no urgency.

Do I not need one functionally?  Visually I like the pictures of the units with the flat screen.

Does the flat screen spin with the flywheel on a C160?

Open to suggestion.

Horse Newbie,  my 74" looks similar in condition to that 77'.

I'll be using this machine as intended but intend to go through it.

I'm not much of a mechanic but enjoy tinkering.

Same here… not much of a mechanic, but I learn more almost every time I wrench on something.

I don’t have trouble with the parts, frames, and most things on the outside. It’s the internals of an engine that I lack experience in.

I just removed the balance gears in the Kohler with the help of @kpinnc ( he did it ), and @Lee1977 .

We also lapped the valves.

When I got the Kohler K341 back home, I resurfaced the head and reinstalled with a new head gasket.

Everyone here on the Redsquare is always willing to help.

I have learned a ton about wrenching since I started collecting Wheel Horses and joined Redsquare…

You will too !

Enjoy !

I plan on leaving the work clothes on this one and painting the wheels… I like that look.

Not at all sure what that flywheel screen is.

I'd be interested to see some daylight pics at differing angles.

Cover is ok just not too attractive.

Will post more.  I hadn't taken any pics that show it, so snapped one during a quick night trial.

Whatever is hanging way out there like that is SUPER DANGEROUS. Wait until that thing grabs a shoe lace or pants leg.

If a specific screen size can't be found it's pretty east to cut a circle in perforated metal since that's all they're made from anyway.

I've got a screen here I could send but it's from a different brand so it has a hole in the middle for a separate pulley.

Fear not wallfish!  This one doesnt spin.  It is fixed on the housing outside of the flywheel.  Appreciate the concern though.

Was thinking about getting something fabricated if I don't find one.

I'll work on getting a solid one made this winter if I don’t find a correct unit. Very much appreciate the offer.

They're all over Ebay. You just have to know what you're looking for. Searching "Kohler screen" returned 3 on the first page. This one is only 15 bucks:

Flywheel screen for big block

Hard to see very much in such a dark pic. One never knows what the other guy's experience is but glad that thing isn't spinning 3600!

The spinning clears the screen vs a stationary screen.

Noted.  Thanks.   I'd rather have it set up as intended.

Maybe they had alot of leaves that were clogging the factory spinning screen?

I search on eBay but I clearly wasn't using the right search terms.  Thanks.

AtoZ emailed me back and I have one on the way from them.

It's one with the smaller holes.   Assuming that won't restric airflow?

Pic of retrofitted non spinning screen also.

Thanks for the help everyone.
