Pile of parts: I planned to replace the transmission pulley on the Peerless 1400 with a smaller pulley off of a Unidrive, but the pulley would not come off without removing the transmission from the frame, as demonstrated here: Darn thing wouldn't come off without dropping the transmission. Oh well... I had fun with disassembly anyway... LET THE DISASSEMBLY BEGIN!!! Beginning with pulling hubs, (left hub was loose, right hub was pretty... siezed...). Lot's of PB blaster, didn't break any bolts... except for the ones I wanted to break... Getting ready to remove the transmission here (u-bolts and all linkages are disconnected): Transmission is out!!! Pulley size comparison (big pulley will now be put on the engine as it is actually in pretty fine shape): New pulley put on: Got some "witches-brew" started for the nuts and bolts... Parts ready for sanding and cleaning: 1 word: disgusting. Stupid bolts on the seat wouldn't come out... so I just ended up breaking them. I didn't plan on re-using the seat anyway... HellHorse is just sitting their in shock while his brother gets naked Beginning to primer the parts: I also drained the transmission fluid before painting the transmission. YUCK... Paint selection: PAINTING!!! Rims took like 12 coats a piece of primer... Ordered parts: Beginning to reassemble: Gift of a seat: Throttle pedal: 4 Stens needle bearings... And 4 sweet valve stems... Rear tires (and turkey): CORRECT lug bolt size is 7/16-20 Finished tractor: NOW on to the engine build sheet: Tillotson 212R - 70mm Reinforced Tillotson Block (New to the 212R) - Tillotson JT-207 Head(same as 196R) Modified for bigger valves - 27mm Intake Valve - 25mm Exhaust Valve - PK-3A (New to the 212R) - Hi-Flow Stock Airbox and Exhaust - Modified governor - New! 212R Race Cam - 70mm Bore - Flat Top piston (More Compression than any other stock 212 or 196) Tillotson 212r re-assembly torque specs: Forged Connecting rod (stock): 150 inch lbs Side cover bolts: 204 inch lbs Head bolts: 204 inch lbs Rocker studs: 204 inch lbs (NOT rocker arm adjusters!) Rocker adjuster nuts: 94 inch lbs Flywheel nut: 54 foot lbs Valve lash (for intake AND exhaust valves): .003 Parts Stripping it down... governor and removal... Sweet bearings... Old valve springs New valve springs... AUTOMOTIVE retainers for 8,000+ rpm Old v. new... Can get wrist ping out without removing piston.. ZERO DECK... Forged rod with babbit bearings installed: Very important, while torquing rod to 150 inch pounds... going up from 15 inch pounds, in 15 pound increments ONLY!!!! Then back it back down to 70 inch pounds, and go back up to 150 inch pounds in 15 pound increments. Rod installation complete. Snoopy11 5,713 #10 Posted September 12, 2022 Just wanted to give a little update on the 800... someone asked me how it was doing... so I thought I would let everyone know. Still running strong. It gets used almost every day to go check the mail, get packages, etc. Pulls 9050 max RPM with 93 octane canned racing fuel and racegas concentrate. Engine is doing very well, changed the oil 3-4 times since build. No signs of wear. Anyway... it pulls very hard in 1st and second gear, will easily burn rubber or pull the front wheels off the ground in second gear. Third gear still opens my eyelids... but is very twitchy so third doesn't get used very often. I am very pleased with the Peerless transmission. It has held up very well with my testing... no signs of wearing out. Goes all the way into gear smoothly... no complaints at all. I have changed the transmission gear oil 2 times since the build. No metal flakes present. I NEVER grind gears... I take very good care of the transmission. I do not pull any weight with this tractor. I baby it, only use it for speed. It is used like an ATV... Belts wear very evenly, I haven't actually changed the belt since the build... still running the same one although I have 2 brand new ones sitting in the tool cabinet. Needle bearings in front wheels are doing very well, no signs of wear from them. They get greased every so often. I do torque the rear wheels and hubs quite often, just to make sure everything is Custom throttle pedal has not failed me... very good quality on the spoon throttle... I'm very pleased with it. I actually can't wait until we get some snow here so I can do some snow drifting with it!!! I will probably post a video of it running here in this thread at some point. Oh, that was just wrapped around the seat so it didn't drag on the.ground The other end was obviously attached to the hitch... If I remember correctly, I used it to pull the steel drag on the driveway one time... (I have a steel drag to break up the rock of the driveway). I did that right after I built it to verify that the transmission was good, strong, and sound... I haven't used it for pulling anything since then... except my behind down the drag-strip driveway... Well, the flywheel itself is aluminum... not cast iron like what would come on a Predator 212 (including the P-ghost)... it's BALCO certified and spin tested to 8500 RPMs. The magnet is machined into the flywheel... so it 'tain't go'in no'wha'ya... As for the exhaust... believe it or not... I have never burnt myself on it... and the e-gasses flow under the seat behind the tractor... shooby-dooby-doo... That is around 7,500 rpm... Full throttle, pulling just under 9,000 rpm... in third gear it runs into the 40's... I can only pull over 9,000 rpm in 1st and second gear... just for clarity...
