Finally got another trailer.

   After the demise of my Land Rover Discovery I replaced it with a Hyundai Santa Fee. Unfortunately the Santa Fee hasn't got the towing capacity of the Disco. Just 2 ton against the Disco's 3-1/2.  So my 12ft x 6ft twin axle trailer went to live at a friends farm. At the weekend I purchased a second hand single axle trailer. 8ft x 4ft 

  I can only carry one tractor instead of four now, but that's not a problem. Having to cut down on the shows with the way things are. It'll be also handy on my trips to my mates in Scotland for hauling logs home.

 

 

  I intend to remove the ramp and replace with a tailgate. Less drag and I have the light weight ramps I used with the 12 x 6 trailer.

Good for you. A question though (only because I used to work for the company that invented the now oh-so-popular 7&4 Way Trailer Tow Connector) is it positive "earth" (ground) or not??

Problem there would be pulling it. Also I wouldn't get far before I got pulled.

Chassis and sides galvanized. Ramp ally tread plate and floor a a composite sheet. Can't think of the name just now.

Especially where you are, that section of the motorway seems to be heavily patrolled by the police.

       When I saw the photo that was the first thing that came to mind, that ramp would catch a lot of air.

I get the convenience for landscapers who drive a low speeds on local roads to have easy on/off, but I see these trailers (and ones with the mesh ramps) on the highway all the time just causing that tow vehicle to suck fuel.

Another thing about the ramp. The tread plate is riveted to the frame and rattles like mad due to loose rivets.

 Bit of work on the trailer this afternoon. Took the ramp off and ground off the insert rivets that held on the tread plate. A drill bit wouldn't touch them. Cut the frame down and cut off a couple surplus bits.

  Finally tack welded the altered frame. I'll take that to a local fabricator to be finally welded. I was finding things a bit difficult with my stick welder and my shaky hand didn't help.
