Amt73 25 #1 Posted April 4, 2022 Just picked up a 1969 500 with rotary deck tires look brand new plus has all the hubcaps steering is smooth down side tranny wont shift into any gear and it has a tecumseh engine but hey may hotrod this one i only got it for the deck and pulley setup for my 857 cant stop myself from picking these little tractors of the past i love restoring them. 1 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Rather than fighting the rust if you have the time to do so I would suggest you jack up the front end and drain whatever liquid is in there now. Remove the dog-point screw that holds the shift lever in place and fill it with diesel fuel or kerosene and allow that to soak for several weeks. some may run out of the axle seals so a big drip pan underneath would be a good thing. Once things have been freed up a bit you can disassemble the transaxle and check the condition of everything inside. Many of the bearings and all of the seals will need to be replaced. Amt73 25 #4 Posted April 5, 2022 Thank you sir ill do just that ive got to tear into anyway as i need the 3rd gear out of it for my 857 although i may just get a new one for it and all new bearings and seals only part that troubles me because ive never had one of these trannys apart. Retired Wrencher 5,830 #6 Posted April 5, 2022 Amt73 I pick up a 606 like that off of Ebay one time [bad move]. It would hardly roll. What a time loading up that on the trailer. Owner was no ware to be found. I did what 953 nut did to a point. I ran it on jack stand for about an hour in third gear. It slowly came back after a few flushing's.
