See... I am laughing VERY hard... I had to Google it too... :text-google:

Grok...

Grok is a neologism coined by American writer Robert A. Heinlein for his 1961 science fiction novel Stranger in a Strange Land. While the Oxford English Dictionary summarizes the meaning of grok as "to understand intuitively or by empathy, to establish rapport with" and "to empathize or communicate sympathetically; also, to experience enjoyment"

Robert A Heinlein coined the word in his SF novels, it's an empathic understanding.

Well, my DF52 gene has flared again. Going back to my rock now to take a nap. :P

But I will look to my Webster's ID-10-Tango repair manual before commenting further.

I've found many tractors locally after someone ran out of interest, and left a rusting pile of scrap

That is how I got the Work Horse… loving refreshing it…

I think I could've found most if not all of them a home better than a scrapyard.

Let’s start a humane society for Wheel Horses… we’ll store them at your place !

Like these old tractors, places like this are fading away. I want to keep it clean and civil, and 'functional' for as long as we can.

I ain’t planning on leaving… until the Good Lord takes me… now FB… that may be a different story…

Yes sir. I come across wrong all the time. I am more of a humorous... playful kind of guy. Doesn't come across right all the time... sometimes people think I am being an A-hole... when I certainly am not! :snooty:

You just described how I feel about myself… I have PM’ed members here to explain my humor, and make sure we are good.

Always seems like a shame / sad to see what was a fine piece of equipment, rust / deteriorate away and find it's way to the scrap.  I like Arnold Palmer's comments in the age old Quaker State commercial: "Just maintaining the old equipment".  Incidentally the old Toro tractor used in that commercial in on display locally and still looks good.

We are all different on this thing we call red square and thats one of the things that makes it so addictive. when I pick up a new to me tractor or any thing, I like to keep it as much like it was when I got it. I change all the fluids, spark plugs and clean it up, do what is needed to get it operating the way it should. The 520-H I bought new in 1989 is the only one I would like to bring back to it's original glory. That's unlikely because of health reasons but one never knows. Others get a new to them tractor and all they can think about is what they can make it into.that person thinks I'm crazy, probably right, I think they are but I sure I'm interested in what they make, it's all good.

OK...when I first read the start of this thread, I thought it would be best served in Restorations or maybe Pullers...depending on where this thread went.  Now I come back into it after a couple of days, and it's 2 pages of "OFF TOPIC".  There is only one place for this thread now..."None Tractor Discussion".  :bow-blue:

YEP! Guilty as charged. This isn't a "build" thread... but we should have went to PM's sooner. :handgestures-thumbupright:

I PM'd @Ifixoldjunk anyway, hopefully he will be in touch with me if he does indeed want to proceed with this project. B)

At least we have somewhat of a sense to know when to stop though and it isn't 5+ pages...

ANYWAY...

Back on topic.

So... if you take a look over at the following thread, @Ifixoldjunk... you will see my engine choice with the parts I am going to use.

This might give you another idea on what you can do.

I will be giving detailed instructions on how to build the engine properly, and part numbers, so if that is something that you are interested in, just stay tuned. Videos will also be included in that thread.

@kpinnc Don’t worry about it, no offense taken. Too many people start projects they can’t finish. I hate seeing anything old go to the junkyard. This is honestly an interesting time for these old tractors, they’re kinda bordering on antique, but there’s still some folk who bought em new and still use them like nothing. Sucks that most of them end up in the hands of kids or grandkids who don’t see them as anything special and junk them.

And yeah, I get where everyone is coming from, I’ve picked up many projects that were just about to be junked by previous owners, my bolens 1050, my old homemade splitter and some vintage saws. I can’t stand the thought of these historical pieces of equipment being sent off for scrap.
