Thinking the seam on the muffler is more towards the outlet whilst the ones you find on the shelf it's in the middle of the can.

Did some measurements for you. First one is a known Kohler mufflers, the rare smaller one.

Measures 3 1/4" long, 3" in diameter, 1" inlet and it's 2" from the back to the seam.

Now for the larger one.

3 1/4" long, 4 1/4" in diameter, 1"inlet, and it's 1 1/2" from the back to the seam.

Yes that's what I was thinking. My little 3/4" mufflers are like that rare one in style.

Gonna be another very nice one Dan!!!!

I like your body work procedures, this was exactly how I was taught in the mid eighties, jitterbug sander and all!!  The productions shops today do it so much different.

Looking forward to the finished product!!!

@Achto Another paint question. Did you mix half red/half clear for your final top coal like they recommend or did you spray straight clear as a completely separate coat.

Also, on your engine rebuild, did you pull the cam shaft and if so did you replace the governor gear.
Thanks for sharing your methods

I did not use any clear at all on the red. 3 coats of single stage red with hardener add. I did remove the cam, I did not replace the governor gear.

All great guesses, but I knew no body would get it.  Guess it's time to let you all in on it's purpose.

It is something really simple yet it turned out great in my opinion. What is it?? It is a fixture to hold my mini maker light that I am using as a tail light.
