John Deere 524

Recommended Posts

Pullstart

Mrs. P picked me up this 524 tiller at an estate sale the other day.  The Tecky has compression.  Hopefully it’ll be a quick project when the time comes!

It seems pretty stout for such terrible colors

Everyone has to have a little variety, even if it is that awful green and yellow kind :ychain:

Nice score though, hopefully it comes back to life without too much trouble.

Only thing is, it's a front fine tiller.  Probably return you to the back cracker - unless you convince somebody else in your family that it is a fun thing to run.

I have a couple other tillers, that mean more to me than this one.  It’ll likely get a refresh and a new family :handgestures-thumbupright:

Well I say those colors look pretty good together!! 😁 It goes good with the homemade metal John Deere Christmas tree hanging on the wall in the background of the first picture anyway.

Keep that thing isolated and quarantined… you have far too many beautiful Red fillies in that shed of yours to risk spreading the Green and Yellow Covid… :hand:

WHX??

Its amazing how good Teckys run on things like snow blowers & tillers & such. :wh: not so much so for some strange reason.

Nice score Hosen... looks like it's fairly narrow for going between rows.

That “tree” was actually my Grandpa’s bird house for the martins.  They were likely his favorite bird to watch on the lake, skimming for insects in the evening hours.  The house broke years ago, but I figured the end wall would be great decoration, and a reminder of him.

Last night while doing some other work and letting some paint dry, I pulled it over a few times.  Good clean fresh oil in it, good compression and it has spark.  The choke is so gummed up, the shaft barely moves.  I’ll do a good Barryman’s dip for the first to-do and flush the fuel system… new hose too.

DO... I need to... go here again... :eusa-think:

I have a front tine tiller... and a rear.

The front tine tiller does pull you out of your boots... BUT it breaks up the soil much better than the rear tine tiller.

Plus... I put a new engine on the rear tine tiller... bringing it back to life. The old engine was a genuine, outright, boneified, dignified, POS... so I decided to be responsible for once (I know, right...? :jaw:), and buy new.

Looks like that is an option for you as well @Pullstart... in case that techy fails you... :D

@Snoopy11 if this Tecky fails me, I have a good handful of other ones ready to sacrifice themselves to the cause!  :ROTF:

Remember, this’ll be a flipper most likely.  No need to go all Tim Allen on it so Sally can rip her arms off :ROTF:

I tinkered with this one tonight.  I need to flush the fuel tank once more, add a new fuel line and tune the carb.  It runs on carb cleaner now and the shroud is now free of mouse nest!

Here’s the Deere,

watch it run.
Run Deere, run.

I even tossed the air filter on, took it out back and chewed on some snowy crushed asphalt.  It runs well!

You... realize that I have been staring steadily at your Youtube... waiting for this video... since January 10th... right? :confusion-scratchheadblue:

You’ll probably not like this response… but I had no available space to create the entire video.  I’ve been purging and clearing stuff left and right and haven’t made much headway.  Finally I got enough space to make and upload the video :ROTF:  Funny side bar.  I posted a “short” today to get rid of just one more cool video and it has had more views, subs and likes than most of my other recent success stories!
