Stigian 1,234 #1 Posted June 21, 2009 A lack of cash of late has kept me from getting on with anything much on the WH front, even my last angle grinder had decided it had had enough of it's working conditions and went up in plumes of nasty smelling smoke So to keep myself busy (very busy as it happens) I decided to take on a project I have been thinking of doing for a very long time. Ever since I started building the Workshack about 8 years ago one part of it has always ended being "that room to dump stuff" into.. Time to make it a much more usable space starting with a lot of clearing out including the old temporary (er.. read temporary as 8 years) floor. So, what's the other side of that wall? Once the board was taken off the full horror of the block work was shown Can you guess what happened next? Once the dust had cleared a lot more sun light poured into the Workshack The only downside is all the junk had to moved somewhere for now, so the extension now looks like this
Stigian 1,234 #2 Posted June 21, 2009 To get the floor level the same as the main building part of the Workshack a lot of rubble was needed. Quite a lot came from the wall which as it happens fell in just the right place But loads more had to be dug out from behind the Workshack chucked on the trailer and brought in. Followed by loads of road chippings.. And loads of sand. Think we found the limits of the trailer with this load The first pallet going down to work out the levels. By the end of that day the floor was almost sorted in the pallet department.

TJ 171 #4 Posted June 21, 2009 Of course you realize that nature abhores a vacuum. All you have accomplished is to create more space for more stuff. Then again, thats when the fun begins. Tom
sawhorse 0 #5 Posted June 21, 2009 I always enjoy your pictures. Your workshack is looking good, especially with a Wheel Horse parked inside. A big hello from the other side of the pond. :thumbs2:
Stigian 1,234 #6 Posted June 21, 2009 As nice as the sand is for getting a nice solid level base, the problem is sand always tends to be a bit on the damp side. Having run out of plastic sheets to put on the sand We had to move on to Plan B. Wrap the pallets up in what else but pallet wrap The white board that was covering the wall came in handy for covering most of the pallets... And now were getting somewhere The old ply floorboards were cut up for lining the inside. A couple of coats of white paint had the wall looking much better. I quite like the contrast between the railway sleepers and the fresh white paint. Next on the hit list (or the to stop hitting your head list) was to move this swinging hammock/shelf But first here's Pete playing with some blocks
Stigian 1,234 #7 Posted June 21, 2009 Wow!! You Guys are fast at your reply's it's comin along nicely ian, you're a very handy guy! keep the pics comin... Thanks Jim, the pic's will keep on coming.. Of course you realize that nature abhores a vacuum. All you have accomplished is to create more space for more stuff. Hi Tom, hows it hanging? Ive created more space to work in, it has also turned into the new "sitting drinking coffee" area I always enjoy your pictures. Your workshack is looking good, especially with a Wheel Horse parked inside. A big hello from the other side of the pond. Hi Jon, glad you enjoy my photo's, got a few silly ones coming up A big Hiya from this side of the pond
Stigian 1,234 #8 Posted June 21, 2009 Back to the hammock, well, more of an ex-hammock, in fact you could even call it the start of a bench "Armed and dangerous" It's Garry the Bench repair man.. Ive always been a big fan of masking tape, it has sooo many uses The bench almost finished, just right for bolting my sheet metal folder onto. The trouble with using doors to build things with is, you never know what or who is hiding behind them. A quick bit of door covering later helped to keep out the nightmare that was hiding behind
Stigian 1,234 #9 Posted June 21, 2009 Garry brought his new camera with him one day. It has a great trick of recording video very fast. Which means when you play it back it's very sloowwww. Here's some wood cutting and drilling through oak with a very blunt drill bit "Cutting and drilling oak!", I hear you say.. Yep, what else but more doors The sharp eyed amongst you might of noticed a few bottle of beer on the bench a few photo's back... There may be a slight possibility that the said beer influenced the next four photo's The Boardroom.. The Bored Room And the "We got bored" Room And that folks is where things stand at the moment. Thanks for reading my ramblings, more to come as it happens.

rallysman 0 #13 Posted June 21, 2009 LMAO!!! Great thread. This seems like a project that I would do, but I would accidentally put a wheel horse through the wall to take it down.

Stigian 1,234 #16 Posted June 29, 2009 Howdo Chaps it time for more tales of daft goings on from over the water. But first... Ian you tickel the chit outta me! biggrin.gif Yer Nutts! Thanks Duke How are you feeling these days? Nice video. Why drill a hole, when you can burn one. The drill did start out nice and sharp, i think it was the drilling into the wall through the oak door to mark out on the wall where to drill that did it..er.. Anyway, smoke looks good slowed down : ) I agree with the others. When I see a post by Stig, I gotta check it out. Your're creative, talented, and funny as heck. Beer is never but an armslength away. Thank you Chris, I could of done with some beer today.. A tad hot this weather. Great thread. This seems like a project that I would do, but I would accidentally put a wheel horse through the wall to take it down. Thank you Rallysman, though i wouldn't recommend knocking down a wall with your WH, unless you have a really strong nudge bar fitted Ian good to see nother post from you! Work shop is looking better everytime you show us pics. Thank you Stephen. I see the 6X6 in the background in the one shot LOL, you do indeed.. I know I keep saying this, but work on it will start again shortly. I did have some
Lane Ranger 10,539 #17 Posted June 29, 2009 Ian: They need you in Hollywood! If you can do all the things you do in your work shack surely you fill a movie stage set or camera with a more expansive view of the world than Hollywood currently has any sucess at doing. Think of how many red tractors you could buy after a stint in tinsletown! You make Charlie Chaplin look out of style. I love your postings. Keep them up. Stigian 1,234 #18 Posted June 29, 2009 It's been a much slower week down the Workshack as the weather heats up, but much has been happening. Starting with yet another door and some oak panels screwed to the wall.. Just to stop people tripping down the step and damaging anything with their heads, a chain was put across the gap A splash of white paint soon had the back of the bench and around the big window looking a lot brighter. Even above the door got the panel and white paint treatment. Somehow this big pile of bits have to fit under the new bench The C-125 came to the rescue and saved much walking. Stepping back inside the new wall door and panels got a coat of Danish oil. Not quite sure how they get the Dane's in the tin, but it does bring the wood up nice Pete has also finished the block on brickwork. Thanks Pete, you have done a great job
Stigian 1,234 #19 Posted June 29, 2009 And to bring this post up to date here's today's slow fun and games. Today has been the hottest day of the years so far with the Workshack reaching 32.5'c (90.5'F) so not much happened in the grand scale of things. Nigel turned up early and between us we got the floor tidied up and the remains of a wall (there used to be a wall going to the railway sleeper at the end of the bench) with some concrete. Pete turned up a bit later and made a start on tidying this wall up. That was quite enough work in this heat, so quite a while was spent relaxing in this This photo is slightly out of order in the work happening order of things, but I thought id end this post on a funny note... Did I mention that the new wall door opens?
