Custom golf cart

Recommended Posts

Oldskool

I've had some stuff laying around for a while now. I've had some ideas kicking around my head for a while as well.

Well they met each other a few days ago.

This is going to be a camp buggy of sorts.

Like any of my other builds I would appreciate any input anyone want to donate.

The base is an 1982-88 Yamaha G1 golf cart.

This is what I have to work with under all that unneeded stuff.

@Handy Don Eric talked me into doing a build thread on this. I wanted to keep you in the loop.

One of the first things I had to do was make the wheelbase a bit more usable.

Lengthened it 8.5" in front to accommodate a bit bigger tire.

Turned out some pieces from heavy wall pipe to make nipples so the joints weren't just butt welded.

Next was bigger tires. Only on front at the moment.

I had a few extra Wheel Horse rims kicking around so that is what I'm going to use.

Ditched the cart 4 lug hubs and swapped to 5 lug trailer hubs.

The old spindle was cut off. Then I drilled a 1" hole in the back of the steering knuckle to except the spindle end with was also turned to 1"  Welded front and back.

Totally awesome!  I’ve done a couple golf cart cage projects, but would love to do a full on custom!

I'm following along. That's very cool, I love old truck rat rods!.

An RV park we like at the beach only allows "Golf Carts" not ATV's or other sand buggies.  I've thought it would be cool to put some WH sheet metal on a golf cart frame.  But I don't have a golf cart frame!

Those parts were originally found in the woods. Separate places though. Years ago a bunch of us guys would seek out old forgotten junkyards and trash heeps. Most of the leeds were rumors or 3rd party info. Some were there some weren't. We did find some cool stuff along the way. 1930 Willys sedan, a 1931 REO coupe, 1932 Ford roadster,1930 Chevy coupe and sedan, and a 1934 Ford truck We found enough stuff over time to each build streetrods.

That would be cool. I got mine from a local junkyard. If you were closer a buddy of mine has two 3wheeled Harley Davidson carts for sale

Nice!

What's the drive input for that transaxle? Driveshaft? Belt?

I think I see half of a snowmobile type clutch on the driver’s side of the transaxle :handgestures-thumbupright:

That is belt drive. It's looked up solid from water in it. I do have another that has reverse built into it. I'm not sure if I'm using either rear though.

I have thoughts of using a Ford Ranger rear that I would narrow. Hydraulic brakes and still the WH bolt pattern

I have to ask what's with the rental truck?  You have a long bed truck and trailer, with that Pulstart could have come back with a dozen.

Not much time to do a whole lot tonight.

I did manage to trim the grille a bit and hit the stash pile for a front bumper. That needs a bit of trimming as well.

I had a chance for some shop time today. So I trimmed and mounted the front bumper with integrated winch mount plate.

The problem with mocking up a bunch of stuff, is when you do all the work to mount it. It still looks the same lol.

Now the grille is mounted as well.

It does look more truck the way you did it than the full grille and a hot rod look

Let's see your view from your workplace "window". I know some are driving truck,or tractor, work in shops/offices or outdoors. What is it that surrounds you during your work day?

I started a thread a little while back "Something from Nothing". It has been upgraded to this thread because now I'm building something from something lol. I started with a new frame and strengthened the transaxle mount a bit.

I've wanted to do this type of project for a while now. So here we go. The name was given by @wallfish. It will be called "The Yeti".  It will be painted and badged in a military theme. The front axle is in progress now.
