I had to run to town a minute and came home to this pooch tearing after my chickens.  I know it’s not really her fault.  No tags, but a collar.  Nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile or so.  I put her in the pool fence for now, but as nice as she seems, I can’t allow this to happen. I wanted to strangle the freaggin thing, but chose not to.

 

can’t find but 5 of 15 birds.

If that was my yard the dog would be held until proper authorities are notified.

She’s very submissive in her actions and whining.  My first instinct in the heat of the moment was pull out the pistol and fix the problem.  Instead I pulled her off my bird and tossed her in the pool fence.

I be with Eric, the Owners are the Problem not the Animals.

 

Here in Corona times lot‘s of peoples buy a puppy dog, because it is allowed to go out with a Dog.

Short after the hard restrictions several Dogs where found some were simply abandoned

others where bound on rest places at Autobahn or in the Forrest.

 

It is impossible for me to believe, this peoples shall be clear in mind.

Here dogs must be chipped, is it at your site also?

 

that would simplify the search of the owner and the responsibilities for what the dog has done.

Yes, hopefully you can find out who the owner is, and they pay for your lost birds and any other damages.

The owner was across the field in some woods cutting trees.  He turned around and instantly started looking for pup.  Mrs. P used Facebook to post on a community site and within minutes they were here.  They too have chickens and haven’t had issues.  The guy offered his flock to me if for any reason we lost layers.  His sincere condolences and honest willingness to right the wrong were great.  Tonight after some time in hiding, all 15 birds are in the roost.

   Dogs that attack chickens can not be retrained. Around here if one goes after a chicken it is considered to be a threat to livestock and the owner is required to keep the dog penned up. In VA you can be arrested for killing a companion animal unless ii is a threat to livestock or people. I like dogs but will never own another because of the numerous chickens around  here. You just never know.

Glad you got them all back - bet that your next batch of eggs may already be scrambled!!

I live in a semi-rural area where that type of incident would classify the dog as vicious - the Animal Control officer would have taken that dog to the pound - the owner could not get it back until showing proof of ownership and that all the dog's shots were up to date. Any further incidents like that involving that dog, well, time for the owner to find a new pup.

A bit of humor concerning a pesky dog and its bad owner, 50 years ago.

I grew up in the capital city where the three deckers were no more than a driveway apart. We were fortunate - we had a one car driveway, a four foot wide strip of grass beside it that adjoined the nextdoor driveway.

There was a dog that would come to do its business on the grass almost every day, right where my Dad would step to get into the car. The owner lived four houses down and would walk with the dog up the street to the Gas Station where he worked. My father confronted him one day as they both watched the dog do its thing - the dog owner refused do anything about the situation.

My father borrowed my brother - in -law's Daisy pump up air pistol. The dog was the kind of mutt that had a curled up tail all the time - that made it easy! Wait for the dog to squat, one pump and aim for the pink target - ping! - Yip!. The dog was a slow learner - next time 2 pumps, PING - YIPE YIPE!! After that the dog would just look at that strip of grass and whimper as it walked by.
