Tires

What does anyone recommend for rear tires, for plowing snow and gardening.  I don't want to do any modification. Also what is a good tire for the fronts, that is not tuff tires. The rims are all original

What model are we talking?  Some folks swear by ags and tri-ribs like me, some swear by turf tires.  I do more ground engaging stuff than anything and like the bite (and look) of a hood vee-bar.

overall, weight will likely get you further than tread design.

Yup.  Different tires for different jobs.

Unlike @Pullstart, most of my operations  are lawn related - mowing and light towing.  My preference is Carslile turf saver tires.  So far, I have not added weight to either of my Horses.

Weight is also critical for improving traction.  Lots of ways to add weight on a tractor - fluid filled tires, weights that hang on the tractor as the most common.

Some get good results in the snow with turf tires, weights, and chains.  Generally, wide tires in the snow are not your friend.

IIFF you have a dirt or gravel driveway...

For the rear in the snow the turfs with good 2 LINK ICE CHAINS will likely give your best result.

As stated above, weight is the key to traction. My tires are fluid filled and also steel weights are used.

For the fronts in the snow your biggest help is going to be to wrap the tire with number 40 roller chain.

For non snow usage I prefer AG type tires.

That said, Trina has turfs with chains on her tractor and leaves them on all year long. They work perfectly fine.

I have a 414-8 and have fluid filled ag tires for gardening and turf for other chores. I have a set of late 80's Sears tires and wheels for mowing and a set of narrower fluid filled turf for snow work with chains. I picked both sets of  turf tires up from FB Marketplace and have $80.00 in two sets with wheels.

don't see anything wrong with turf tires in the front, an AG there will not help out much with steering. maybe a three rib there.

Rear tires depend on tractor on a raider 10 I would go for a 23/8.50-12

  • Chains for snow
  • AG for ground -engaging stuff
  • Turf for mowing, trailering and driving around the yard

Those do make a difference to us.

The rib cuts in and steers much better than a turf tire.

Again, weight is the key.

More down pressure is more traction and more steering ability.

Here's a pic of the front end of The Colossus build.

Tri ribs or 3 ribs are a standard 2wd farm tractor tire.
