It will look better with some North Carolina red dirt on it.

Even though I do have a plow ( for witch I still need a clevis hitch ) I don’t really have acreage… if she works much , it will be mostly cutting grass or pulling a lawn trailer. I still need to refurb her mower deck… If she works, it will be light work…

Looking great 👍.  If you order the hood latches from ACTUS, let us know how they fit.

I think you should change the steering wheel to a 417 style wheel.  Makes steering easier and it is softer and more comfortable on your hands.  You have a super comfy seat, you need a steering wheel to match.

Well now @Bill D, that does sound like a good idea… but would you do that if you had already tried like the dickens to remove the original steering wheel…and you COULD NOT get the roll pin that holds it to budge ? Guess I could have drilled it out…

I wanted the steering wheel off when I was taking it apart, but I was afraid I would tear something up.

Can someone post a pic of a 417 style steering wheel ?

And BTW, thank you for the compliment and the “thumbs up”.

Is that steering wheel bigger than what’s on a 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 ?

Because if it is bigger, then it will be awful close to the seat. The one on now seems closer to the seat than my 520H is…

could be the mounting holes on the new seat for the Work Horse were farther back, causing the seat to sit closer to the steering wheel.

I’ll have to check the old seat against the new seat and find out tomorrow.

I added about 3" to the steering column on my 312. I also raised the fender 1 3/4".

Here's a picture with a ruler that's 12" long.

I would consider making a longer steering shaft and column cover then adding the 417 wheel.  I made a new column cover using 3/4"  NSF pipe, 1" PVC pipe and 1 1/2" NSF pipe.  I got the pipe in two foot lengths at Home Depot.

Even though the 1984 Work Horse GT-1600 is 99.9999999% done, I have a question still, so I hope youse guys (learned that from @ebinmaine) will still tune in to this thread for a little while longer.

Still have 3 pages to 50…:lol:

At full throttle the 16 hp Briggs twin seems to have a constant “flutter”, if you will.

I describe it as a flutter because even though she runs strong and steady to me, I can hear a flutter… any suggestions as to what it may be ?

Maybe high speed adjustment needs tweaked ?…

I'd need to hear it. Make a YouTube vid and post a link?

@Handy Don and @SylvanLakeWH

I did upload a video to YouTube. My YouTube channel is Tim’s DIY Club, or I will try to attach a link here.

I am using an iPhone and I am catching a fit trying to figure out how to upload videos to YouTube.

Worked just fine. Can't say that I'm hearing anything off but maybe others will.

Yeah for some reason my iPhone started letting me select videos when I hit “Upload a video”

Before it was asking me to record a video as the only option, and I already had a video or 3 I wanted to select… anyways,

I figured it would be hard to hear that flutter in the video. I can hear it LIVE, but I can’t hear it in the video either.  :lol:

It sounds fine to me in the video…

It sounds okay to me.  Is the Magneto new?  You could have a "leaky" plug wire causing the flutter you're concerned about.  Try adjusting the carb when it's warmed up.  Also consider switching to NGK plugs.  Some people here claim they're better than Champions.  Just my two cents.

@Bill D,

Got the rubber hood straps in for the Work Horse…

Thank you for helping me find them…

ACTUS MFG…

very nice gentleman on the phone… he said they sell at least a couple sets a month to people restoring tractors…

I will be installing these later this afternoon, but for now it’s back to the 48 inch SD deck underside POR-15 treatment.
