Drain plug is on the very bottom right next to where the hitch contacts the case bottom.

8 speed fluid is 2 qts of the least expensive 80W90 gear oil you can find.

If it's muddy or has water be sure to replace the shift boot too. 👍

We try to avoid religious topics on this forum, but the subject of lubrication might be an exception! :lol:

I'll step back and let some of the real transmission specialists chime in with their preferences and logic! @stevasaurus?

Beautiful area of Vermont you're in there.

Scroll up to post #2. I've answered your questions.

Keep asking questions and we do like to see pics of all tractors.

The flow rate of the gear oil into that tiny dipstick opening was so frustratingly slow, I removed one of the nuts and stuck a vacuum hose over that hole.  This worked surprisingly well.  Caution:  unless you can get the input line way down in there, some of the oil will get sucked directly from the funnel into the hose, and cleaning that is probably impossible.  Use the Crapvac®️.  This will save time.

I suppose it’s possible the oil could get sucked into the works and catch fire, so you might want to consider that risk as well.  And that “gasket” under the hose is the old shift boot repurposed.

@cwbuck1951 and @Jacob S,    :WRS:

When draining the transmission you should jack up the front end of the tractor to get complete  drainage. Then filling the transmission through the dip stick tube a piece of wire inserted alongside the funnel will provide a vent to allow the oil to flow down without burping.

@Jacob S only thing I can add , is the emphasis on the condition of the fluid removed , if its milky or  rusty  gunk , I  would change the intended oil refill , to a fuel oil or atf oil , for flushing with use. if you have to do that put some distance and time on the lighter oil to flush out the crud. done similar flushes a couple of times , before going over to the straight gear oil . best to put some road time on it if possible , imaging the flushing waterfall of a thinner oil cleaning out the debris , that is what you want . done that , all my gear oils now are clean and fresh , and stay that way . don't  forget to jack up the front end to increase the drainage .  good luck with it , pete
