And first oil change at about 1 hour. Being every thing is new in this engine I want to flush it out good. Probably over kill.

Not overkill sir! You're doing it right! Get all that initial run grit out of there! I'm gonna do the same with mine!

When you don't have an oil filter, this is the right strategy!

Recycle that oil at your nearest service station, of course.

Paint day…I really hate the prep work. I tried sanding my NOS Hood which had 40 years worth of scratching and dings. Primed it and was like this sucks. Down to bare metal with a wheel…ugh. Anyway it came out well. I want this tractor don by the end of this week!

Looks good from here Bob!

Many moons ago a pro body repair fella told me painting a car is about 95% prep and the rest actual spraying.

I hate body work. I can’t blend anything, nothin, nada! Bare metal is a lot of work without sandblasting but it’s the only thing that works for me….

Coming together, all metal is painted and going back on. Should be interesting to fit the fender pan  given the width of the electric lift. Has to fit cause it came apart!

Bob are you going to put any kind of guards on the edges of the sheet metal where they contact? Kind of like miniature door edge guard...

Hadn’t thought of it. None of my others have anything like that. Any pictures?

Eehhrrrr.  Not a good one of course.

Zoom in on the back of the hood by the steering wheel. There's a little black stripe there. It's a U shaped black molding that slides over the edge of the metal.

The top piece of the hood stand was different on the 78 and 79 models with the old C-series hoods.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Lee when you first posted that I went out and measured everything. Everything measured identical. Length, height, width, bolt spacing, all of it. I bolted it up today and well it is too short. But it measures the same. Took me at least 30 minutes with a tape and framing square to figure out what is wrong. Those sneaky Wheel Horse engineers put more angle on the way the front grill mounts effectively pulling the hood forward 1/2-3/4”. I really should just put this thing away till spring. I wanted it done this week but my old hood is rotted through. Wednesday the 13……I feel like the Blackhood gods had it in for me! You live and learn and I’m still learning….

The were a clever lot, weren't they!

After all the years of having these, I never noticed the difference in those hoods- and always thought it was tires and decals that made the newer Cs look so different!

Bob, this may not be so bad.  if you take the hinges off the hood and set a rag on the front hitch, can you fit and latch the hood with out interference?

There is not much to the hinge, should be able to modify or duplicate .   Or, How about moving the hinge pivot rod to the rear hole in the front hitch,  then drill a new hole behind it for the stop rod.

Maybe even weld up the holes on the (or better yet, another) front hitch, re drill where they need to be, may need to enlarge the angled cut on the front of the hitch slightly.

You know it is difficult when all but one dimension is different. Sneaky b@&”:;s! Hopefully this bit of heart ache helps someone in the future!
