Gregor 4,847 #1 Posted May 9, 2021 Figured I would start a different thread on the motor itself. Maye a little less confusing. This is on the C-175 Automatic. I actually had the motor fired up for about 1 second, using starting fluid. If I had remembered to turn on the gas, maybe it would have kept on running. Now that I know where the fuel pump is (Thank You @pfrederi), I won't be using the electric fuel pump anymore. With a different battery, and a charger hooked up, I can hardly get the motor to turn over. I took the plugs out, and that didn't help much. I'm thinking maybe a weak starter. According to what I've read, you have to pull the flywheel, to pull the starter. That's a bummer. I'm letting my battery charge a while, and see if that helps. It fired up once, I'm sure it will again. Sure wish I could find some numbers on his thing.
Gregor 4,847 #2 Posted May 9, 2021 Found the numbers. Guess I was looking for a decal or tag somewhere.
Gregor 4,847 #3 Posted May 9, 2021 I have the starter off, and in my vise. It spins, but it's not real happy about it. I'll try to clean it up inside, and see if it improves. As of yet, I have not been able to find a parts break down for this motor.
kpinnc 14,632 #4 Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) Shame you aren't closer. I have an 18hp Briggs twin that needs a new home. Looks a bit nasty, but it seems pretty solid. Edited May 9, 2021 by kpinnc

Wasn't sure I had one of those. If you are going to pull one, know that the key is very small, and a lot easier to lose than it is to find. Gregor 4,847 #10 Posted May 10, 2021 Limited success. The starter still will not crank the motor over, but my 1/2" corded Makita will. Shortly after this video, it died. I tried to start it again, and a LOT of gas was erupting from a small hole in the top of the carburetor. You can see the small hole in the video. This is why I wish it was a Kohler. At least I know a little something about them, and I have lots of carburetors. 20210509_204938.mp4
Bill D 2,247 #11 Posted May 10, 2021 I happen to love those engines. Try rebuilding the carb and fixing the starter before you condemn it. Bill

Bill I am not condemning it, it's just going to take me a bit to familiarize myself with it's operation. I also need a good source for parts, such as a carb kit, and possible starter.
