Another seldom seen drilling tool

I've got a tapered bung hole reamer in my collection that strongly resembles that, but it doesn't have the ratchet mechanism, fixed handles.  Same vintage I would think.

I've also got what appears to be the identical piece here, came from my Grandfather's shoe making shop back in 30s.

Bung hole reamers are never ratched but some are adjustable.

yes that would have been where one would find it. It is a cobblers nail caddy. Very useful. I have a couple of them.

It is.  There's a screw on the blade that allows an in/out adjustment much as a block plane.  I believe this reamer was also my Grandfather's, but the tool collection has mixed between my and my wife's ancestors, and others I've collected over the  years so I can't be certain of the provenance.  I recently sold the bulk of the collection (about 500 pounds worth) but kept items that I really liked.

By the way, it still has some of the original nails in it!  Rusted to 5h1t, but I decided to keep it that way.

Selling here is really a forbidden  word. The mere thought of it puts me in a panic.

@formariz - neat tool.  Haven't seen one before.  That handle arrangement sure would balance out the torque forces on larger bits.

Selling here

I didn't sell here, and no intention of doing so, no worries!

Just saying that I've sold the bulk of my collection in the past year or so.

By the way, my nail caddy may be a bit smaller than yours but it has eight divisions instead of six,

This type of nail caddy are all the same size but some have more compartments. I have one like that also with 8 compartments.C54A545C-ECB3-4391-A4FA-679415140D4E.jpeg.3765ef7e9ac6add6410ae249b374ca44.jpeg

That is their function. Everything here has to earn their keep.

You just need to find the rest of it!  Humidity changes made them loose and they got separated.
