Matthew Schnell 0 #1 Posted February 22, 2021 (edited) I have a wheel horse 418-8 electric lift manual engaged pto garden tractor. I got it with no wires on it. Got it from a guy who wanted to rewire it lost interest and he sold it. I picked it up and I'm trying to piece the electrical system together. The light panel on the dash is broken and the little clips are broke off on it. So I my next plan was to by pass that and just wire it to start run and stop. So as I'm looking through it I can't find anything about the magneto on it. I got it to crank over but I cant get it to fire I started to look at the magneto and it looks like there's 2 post on it for wires but it looks like its broke off. Can anyone on here help point me in the right direction of getting a new magneto and tips for wiring it. Thank you. Gregor 4,847 #2 Posted February 22, 2021 I am not that smart on ignition systems, but there are those on here who are, and can tell you everything you need to know, given the correct information. "I started to look at the magneto and it looks like there's 2 post on it for wires" Are you sure it's the magneto you are looking at? The magneto is located under the flywheel. I have never seen one with posts, but I suppose it's possible? Are you possibly looking at solenoid? A relay? A voltage regulator? I don't even know if your motor has battery or magneto ignition. Pictures would go a long way in helping those, trying to help you. to RED SQUARE
JCM 10,113 #3 Posted February 22, 2021 Not sure what is going on here ? A 418-8 is a one year Model with an 18 HP Kohler magnum with magneto. This model also came standard with the electric lift. Maybe @pfrederi or @953 nut may be able to help.
953 nut 59,264 #4 Posted February 22, 2021 The attached diagrams are the wiring for your tractor. Your engine is a Kohler M-18 with a magneto ignition, DO NOT connect 12 volt electrical wires to the magneto. We discourage the elimination of safety switches, they are there to save lives. This guide has each function (starting, lights, ignition etc.) shown and should help a great deal, download both and save them.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #5 Posted February 22, 2021 The 418-C used a simpler wiring system
pfrederi 18,563 #6 Posted February 22, 2021 (edited) Is this the thing with the broken tab?? it is the Voltage regulator not the magneto Edited February 22, 2021 by pfrederi
