Guess what I bought!

Hope you're sitting down. I don't know anything about it. Just thought it looked cool, and I ought to have it. My wife asked me what that green thing was. "I've had that for a long time. I just brought it up from downstairs" She called me a liar. Of all the nerve.....

Guess I will have to start doing some more research.

That's not funny at ALL! LOL  But if it should need timing, I have 4 or 5 prototype timing tools around here that just might work.

20210114_164328.jpg.c83cef697dcd514ef65b4a4900a73927.jpgThis is the PTO side.I guess if you are going to mount it, this is where you do it.

Just way cool Gregor and what a conversation piece :handgestures-thumbupright:. I just perused Paul's downloads a little bit but didn't see what they were used for? Yours looks to be NOS.

Pumps and some strange signal corp generators (not something really usable for us)..  The two cylinder version of the engine ran the1.5Kw generators.  Parts are easy to find

Has the overbuilt, "I can work anywhere", U.S. Army look about it.

The thumbscrew lock on the throttle and the taper at the end of the driveshaft say "generator" to me.

That's what I first thought but then not much of a taper. @Achto

That the mounting holes and the hole at the end of the shaft appear plugged is odd, too. Generators and pumps normally need a tight, straight connection to the motor.

The one we have is destined for an 856 chassis.

You've got to be kidding!  Took over an hour to recognize, find and post a manual for it?  What took you so long?

Thanks pfrederi. I have been looking for something like that.

The PTO shaft end is threaded. 5-16, fine thread, as are the mounting holes.

The seller said he believed the motor to be new and unused, but wasn't sure. The plastic plug is still in the fuel pump inlet.730525228_20210114_16432822.jpg.f981aa23a381d9fa4e49388564669219.jpg

Where would a guy begin to look for parts? Like a muffler, for instance. And maybe a kid to pull the rope !

Yes, if you also have the generator that goes with this and your house can operate on about 1000 watts (this thing is only 1.5hp)!

The only generators i have ever seen were old signal corps stuff strange voltages to run radios and ratt rigs..  Could also have been a pump.  i think mine was made by Chrysler marine...

Parts no problem...  just one source search under 1A08.  (1 cylinder 8 cubic inches ) 2A016 two cylinder 16ci.  or my Mule 4A032 4 cylinder 32 ci.

Good old Chrysler/Continental 1A0x series engine. I have a 1958 Continental version, EB has a Chrysler I think.

Ton of neat little trinkets on them.. coating the float in model airplane dope before you destroy it with modern fuel is a good idea.. incidentally, a brass float from some early Evinrude motors, and Homelite's real early chainsaws, also work fine. I did that with mine.
