953 nut 60,083 #1 Posted September 4, 2020 I know that this is not a world's record for slow postal delivery but it got my attention. Our local tractor club made the decision to cancel our 2020 show. Post cards were sent out on May 8,2020 to let folks know and today (nearly four months later) one of the cards was returned due to a forwarding order having expired. Don't know about you but I will be taking my absentee ballot to the elections office rather than trusting it to the USPS. 6 3
Ed Kennell 42,047 #2 Posted September 5, 2020 I'll use the absentee ballot that I applied for, and the general unrequested ballot that everyone is getting. I'll also vote in person in hopes that at least one of them will get delivered and counted. 3 1
Skwerl58 763 #3 Posted September 5, 2020 With all the mail in ballots we'll have more votes counted than population. Some ballots will be arriving in February. 1
JoeM 8,351 #4 Posted September 5, 2020 The last mail in ballot I used was followed up by a confirmation email receipt from the elections office. About 7 days. I think if one is concerned with those letters getting lost, you can mail in early enough and confirm, the ballot doesn't change. Of course you have to check your email.
Ed Kennell 42,047 #5 Posted September 5, 2020 Due to my travels, I have applied for and used absentee ballots several times in the past. I actually have more confidence in these ballots as the application requires some form of identification and a valid mailing address. My in person voting place does not require any form of ID to vote, Mass mailings of millions of unrequested ballots without any form of ID is scary. These ballots with their self addressed stamped return envelopes that are distributed with the millions of tons of junk mail will surely create a contested election that will never be accepted by any candidate. 1

In North Carolina when you apply for an absentee ballot your name is marked as having voted in that election so you can't (in theory) show up at the polling place and vote again. The cynical phrases "Vote early -- and often" is attributed to three different Chicagoans: Al Capone, the famous gangster; Richard J. Daley, mayor from 1955 to 1976; and William Hale Thompson, mayor from 1915-1923 and 1931-1935. All three were notorious for their corruption and their manipulation of the democratic process. It is most likely that Thompson invented the phrase, and Capone and Daley later repeated it 3 1
Herder 2,355 #7 Posted September 5, 2020 Not surprised!! I live in mid state NY and part of my employment responsibility is to oversee our billing. One of the local USPS hubs closed down about two year ago and as part of that we received a large amount of return to sender(s). Some of them were four years old!!!! I was really pissed when that happened, by law I cant remove late fees or finance charges without proper proof of reason. If you pay for water & sewer and your bill is late or doesn't arrive it's most likely your mail carrier. 1

shallowwatersailor 3,214 #9 Posted September 5, 2020 (edited) Since DeJoy was called on the carpet by the Congressional committee, there has been a noticeable improvement in transit time for the mail. I purchase items on eBay for my other hobbies. In July it was taking two weeks to get packages from Florida and Missouri. It was very irritating to pay the vendor's Priority shipping but then have the post office delay it. For example, one of my packages was surrendered to the local post office but didn't leave for two days. Then it bounced through four postal centers in Florida before finally breaking loose to Virginia. The next day it was at my doorstep. Totally fabricated by the new Postmaster General's policies. It is now back to normal with three days from Florida and even three days from California. I feel sorry for the customers that had prescription drugs delayed, checks, and other crucial mail delayed. Mine was just hobby items. Ironically during the slowdown I ordered a new mower belt for my one Wheel Horse. I ordered it from a dealer in North Carolina but expected it to take a week or more to arrive. The old belt was pretty cracked but I figured at least one more cutting, maybe two. It arrived in two days! Evidently the NC and VA post offices never read DeJoy's memos! By the way, a postcard is one of the slowest forms of mail that the USPS delivers. Probably because it only costs $0.39. Edited September 5, 2020 by shallowwatersailor
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #10 Posted September 5, 2020 I think a large number of the United States citizens mistake an un-requested ballot application with a non-existent (except for Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Washington State) mail-in ballot. Only those five states residents would receive a mail-in ballot without any action on their part as that is their form of election voting. In Virginia (I'm sure like many other states) to request an absentee ballot, there are a number of qualifying steps before even receiving a ballot that need to be taken to vote absentee. In essence, there is not any difference with the outcome of both forms of voting. Some politicians would like you to believe otherwise .

stevasaurus 23,281 #12 Posted September 5, 2020 @Ed Kennell, I doubt you can vote in Penn without telling them who you are. I'll bet you at least have to sign a piece of paper so they can compare signatures. In Illinois this year, I have requested absentee or mail in ballots (they are the same thing) for my wife and I. I requested them online with our names, address, county and my E-Mail. All of which they already have. I then received a request for ballot in the mail, which I and my wife had to fill out. Again, with name, address, phone number and E-Mail and our signature and printed name. We should now receive a ballot for each of us so we can vote. We can then mail in the ballot, we may be able to take them to a collection box set up for ballots, or we can turn them into the county clerk. When they receive our ballots, they will mark our names as having voted, so we would not be able to vote either early or at the polling place. We will probably drop them off to the county clerk's office and take the post office out of the game at this point. There are those that are trying to get us to lose confidence in our post office and in the voting process. As a Veteran, this makes me extremely angry. Something you can do, and I have done, is become an Election Official as a watch dog to report any shenanigans. They will train you on what to look for, and a phone number for reporting and getting help. Vote and get involved. Protect the most important freedom we have. 2

That's why you need to visit a cemetery and jot down some names for absentee ballots. I am totally against this nonsense except for those that cannot physically get to the polls. If one were to visit certain community organizations and watch the help in filling out their ballots, I am sure you would understand the problem.
Ed Kennell 42,047 #14 Posted September 5, 2020 1 hour ago, stevasaurus said: @Ed Kennell, I doubt you can vote in Penn without telling them who you are. You are correct Steve. At my voting center, you state the name of known a registered voter. The volunteer searches the book for that name and then reads the address. You must give a positive nod that it is the correct address. Then you copy the name under the persons signature. Then cast the vote. BTW, the volunteers manning my center are not handwriting experts. I am a 100% left hander and I have signed my name right handed without any question. Is this illegal...of course it is. But the point is, with no requirement to produce any ID, I or anyone could vote multiple times for any number of registered voters that you know has not yet voted. I take my voting very seriously and am also infuriated at the possibility of my vote being cancelled by an illegal vote. Right now, I also feel the the application for a absentee ballot that requires some ID is the most secure way to cast a vote. Of course the completed ballot must be hand delivered and not dropped in a mail box with millions of tons of junk mail.

Steve that's pretty much how the mail in /absentee voter ballot works in Florida for many years, you have to initially request that you want to vote by mail after that you get a ballot in the mail for every election. You vote then put it in an envelope they give you that is non scan-able and then in the outside envelope that they give you, put a stamp on it and mail it. The envelope has a tracking bar code, so you can track you envelope. That's how my wife and I and another very famous Florida resident have voted for at least the last five years .
stevasaurus 23,281 #16 Posted September 6, 2020 In the 2016 election, I decided to vote early. The early voting took place in the town public library. When I got to the table, the girl asked my name. I told her and she gave me the ticket to sign. I signed and gave her back the ticket and she gave me a piece of paper with my voting number on it. I asked her why she did not ask for my driver's license or some other form of ID. She said she was trained in matching signatures. Pretty cool I thought. Banks use this process as well although probably not as often with most banking today being online. You actually compare the signatures upside down as the slant is what they look for.

Arrived in Harrisburg, Pa. on Sept. 29., 25 mile from me. USPS tracking says package will be delivered Oct. 14. Buried under ballots??
