I believe I have a rj-35, or 85. Can someone help me with location of serial #s on frame, and Kohler 4hp serial# as there is several coats of paint on this Tractor, so I know exactly what I am working on?  Thank you so much I believe it is a 50's Model

No serial numbers on the frame tractors that old didnt have serial numbers.

4hp kohler most likely a k90 or k91 serial tag would be riveted tk the flywheel shroud on the carburetor side.

Post pics of your tractor so we can help you identify it.

:text-welcomewave:I have a restored rj58 they put a tag on the frame on the rj58 and 59 models and on up. If its a 58 or 59 and looks similar to mine there may be a tag on the frame on the left side in front of the motor

But the best way to find the year would be by the metal oval tag by the shifter. The should be a tag there it will be short numbers and a letter. the last number if i remember is the year the tranny was made. If it looks like mine look for a 8,9,or 0 on that tag by the shifter. if its older im not sure and the tranny will be alot different.

The last pic, looks more like it. It doesn,t have the the long lever on the right side. I am going to look at it again, this wkd.  Everyone on this forum has been so helpful, I now know where to look for numbers, that is great! Thank you

A Co-Worker got this ad a gift from his Father when he was 7 yrs old. They never could get it running. His Father has soon passed, and he asked me to look at it. The 4hp Kohler (I think) had 100# of Compression, but no spark.

@Lane Ranger Is correct. 1959 The last digit is a 9 so that means she was made in 59. At least the transmission was.

Is that a Clinton B1290 in there? Sure is a fine looking survivor! :handgestures-thumbupright:

I think every photo so far the motors are kohlers. My restored rj58 is a 4hp kohler Early 58 and some 59 had clintons tho.
