AHS 1,546 #1 Posted June 27, 2020 I just added a choke cable. What’s a wheelhorse supposed to idle at and high rpm? It runs and starts great.... but the issue is.. when I bring it from idle to high rpm really quick...there is a hiccup in the motor, almost stalls... it’s sorta like it’s leaning out. At high rpm, it’s mows fine. At low rpm it lugs around, like a kohler. Oh ya, I got the tractor and the mower for $300!!😁 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

PeacemakerJack 10,743 #4 Posted June 27, 2020 I can’t overemphasize the importance of pulling the float bowl and making sure that is clean. Often these tractors sit for long periods with ethanol fuel and it crystallizes and gels in the bowl. It can cause problems intermittently or continuously if not removed. I always keep a surplus of carb gaskets because it is the number one problem to many of the old Kohler’s I’ve encountered in not running. I can’t tell you the number of tractors that I’ve purchased that didn’t run and all it took was cleaning the fuel system and they ran great! WVHillbilly520H 10,376 #9 Posted June 29, 2020 I recently picked up a non running 414-8 (and got it running) but a bit like you if I move the throttle fast from idle to WOT it will also "hiccup" but if I move it slowly upward to WOT it goes flawlessly each time... I’m trying to get ready for snowblowing, this is my first year on this tractor, so I’m trying to work all the kinks out of it!!! I need to buy a tiny tac....its sounds about right; the idle and the high RPM. And need to change the fuel lines and fuel filter.... I think there original! It looks so by the amount of dry rot!! I’ve had to replace several of those through the years but that seems to be a more intermittent problem which I would link to the carb/fuel system more likely as Indicated above...I’ll have to observe my daughters Case 224 with the M16 and see if it does that... Add some Seafoam to the gas at a rate of 5 oz/Gallon and drive the heck out of it. After that use the normal 1 oz/Gallon ratio.
