Ike 75 #8 Posted May 24, 2020 Like many in the wheelhorse collecting community, I am always on the prowl for low hour machines. I located a pristine 1988 520-hc with 50 original hours on it that was in storage and I passed on it since at the time I had just bought a kubota bx1500 and felt I did not need another machine. The owner was an older person who was retiring to Florida and did not need it. He had purchased the machine as a spare for the other 520-hc he bought new in 1988. He said the hours were from just starting it up every month to keep it running. I also remember he wanted top dollar for it and would not budge. I waited to decide if I wanted it then he had an accident with a chain saw and went off the grid for months. I called him a few months later and to my surprise the machine was still available. Just as I was scheduling a visit to buy it he called me back and said two guys came up and bought it. Just not meant to be!
ebinmaine 73,002 #9 Posted May 24, 2020 Like many of us I've had a slew/passel/gaggle of cars and trucks I wish I'd kept. Some: I bought a 1989 Dodge Daytona C/S new. Black out. Tan in. Found out just recently that Chrysler only made a couple hundred of them. Most were grey interior. Late 60s Chevelle.. This was BEFORE a "muscle car" was worth much: Back in the late 80s I had a friend who's brother in law was a seriously particular top-notch car tech. He was restoring a 68/9 Chevelle with a 396. Engine, transmission, paint, body all done. Needed interior freshening. He found a better example of an original 454 car and would have sold the 396 car for the $$ of parts/supplies he had into it. About $3500 or $3900... Also a BMX bike frame. I used to be rreeaallllyyy into BMX/freestyle riding when I was a teen in the 80s. I built a bunch of bikes and was constantly modifying or improving. I had a JMC frame that was found by a friend's dad who had some great connections in the pro level BMX world. It built specifically for a sponsored member of the JMC racing team. It was around 2" longer than average and had a more vertical steering angle. I traded it for a bike trailer later in life so I could haul my young kids around with my 1989 Shogun mountain bike (which I STILL own)... And I'll never regret the trade... But I learned later how VERY rare and special that JMC frame was. Nowadays EASILY worth $2500-$4000... Maybe more. 2

rmaynard 16,372 #11 Posted May 24, 2020 (edited) About 8 years ago, there was a local for sale ad for an RJ-35 about 30 minutes from me. After a phone call to the seller, I discovered that it was still in good running condition with an original Clinton engine. I told him that I was interested and asked how much he wanted. "Best Offer" was his reply. "First offer that makes me happy gets it. It may be gone when your get here he said, so bear that in mind". Okay I said, so I grabbed as much cash as I had available and headed out. Thank heavens it wasn't a long drive because my $600.00 dollars was not nearly enough. It was sold just before I got there for $950.00. Edited May 24, 2020 by rmaynard 1

Messaged the guy and he said bring your trailer and gave me his address. I walked outside to get ready to hook up the trailer He messaged me back and said "gone"
12Horse Paladin 1,038 #13 Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) My first ride in '92 i think it was (i wish i was a picture guy then😔...!) Was my dream ride, a 1972 k5 Blazer. Oh, it wasnt pretty or fast, but bone stock that thing was a stump puller, Lord. I wish i knew what gears it had...it topped out at about 80, was slow to get there, n no faster downhill with the wind at your back, than it was on a flat or uphill. Thiscwasvwhen you could still FIND and Buy a 'runner' '72 Chevrolet truck for a few hundred maybe a grand or 2, tops. They've since found that they were plated in solid gold under the factory paint😒 But a few yrs ago, i found one in the local paper, a CST even ( like mine was), for 2grand, at 7am. I was on that phone faster n you can blink. The guy just laughed n said it just sold n he didnt get it cuz that ad 1st ran that morning n his phone was ringing off the hook since 6am... I bid on one avyear or two later on ebay from out in Colorado with a max bid of 10,100.oo. The last 30 seconds of biddingbi tbought i hed it, at 8000.oo, but then that price just started flashing...knew i was done; sniper bait... Sold for 10, 200.oo One of these days, tho... balconio 606 #14 Posted May 26, 2020 C-120 automatic about an hour away for $125. cosmetically it was kind of rough and had no deck, but all there and solid. it had an older 10hp Kohler with a starter/generator setup which "ran good". could have been the perfect tractor for the kids, although they've learned how to use the gear-drives pretty well.

WHNJ701 4,165 #16 Posted May 27, 2020 what's DK bike worth? I have one of them. my kids don't like it. a few years ago I missed 2 chrome frame 80's BMX bikes I forgot the brands, mongoose maybe? they were doing a barn clean out, next day when I went back to get more stuff I found out they went in the metal pile off to the crusher
tom2p 2,394 #17 Posted May 27, 2020 (edited) I pestered a guy for years to sell me an old 704 with a plow he had at small service station never did get the 704 - but I did get the mower deck mower deck was buried in a bunch of car parts etc in a loft above the garage bays ... first had to find it the mower deck - buried in car parts and junk and of course no lights - and then had to find a way to get it down because there were no steps - had to climb a vertical ladder to get up to the loft ... so I tied a rope to the mower deck and then dropped it to the floor (slowly) using the rope Edited May 27, 2020 by tom2p

bottjernat1 2,194 #21 Posted May 27, 2020 My story begins with my wonderful wife she tells me you don't need that! But there is that once in a million chances where she says are you an idiot why didn't you go get that! You know you will never run across that deal again. LOL So saying all that the newest horse story is with the free d-160 i got given to me by a Facebook guy! I have been online for years and a lot of folks have heard my story of how close i was to my late dad and a lot of folks in the surrounding area of noble county Indiana have either dealt with my late dad or me. My late dad was always making a deal and no pun intended horse trading! LOL! Anyways I have always wanted a d series like many other horse junkies. So I liked and said on another guys post on Facebook man some day i hope to get me one of dem there d series! End of story? NO! All of a sudden I get a private message from another guy saying I have this d series wheelhorse if you want it come get it. I say back don't play with my emotions LOL! He says to me I have no room for it and I think it will go to a good home if you want it come get it or i will scrap it. So then i asked my wife well what do you think? She responds well what would your dad have done. I respond he would be in a truck and headed to go get it. So she says well don't be a dumby lets go get it. So I did! I have the best wife in the world!! 2
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #22 Posted May 28, 2020 Here in Oklahoma Wheel Horses don't come around very often, so when I find one I usually try to buy it. Two or three years ago, I stumbled across a 1054 on CL in Oklahoma City. Don't remember now what the price was but as I remember it seemed like a good deal. At the time I was self employed and could take off whenever I wanted to, I should've drove down that day and picked it up. But I decided to finish up the two big jobs I was in the middle of and go get it on the weekend. Long story short the weekend came and the tractor was gone, to this day I still cuss myself for not hooking up the trailer that afternoon 2
wh79d160 52 #23 Posted May 28, 2020 Hate to say it but before I had my wheel horses, I was in love with JD 318's, looked for ever , Found one , probably 15 years ago, It was a 91 , I think. it had 332 hrs on it. I remember that because that is a JD model also. ( 3 cylinder yanmar diesel??)The engine was replaced under warranty (Onan issue) with a 20 hp Onan. It had a rear bagger & a power chute. It was a separate little engine that sucked up whatever the deck (51"} spit out. The Guy wanted $1800. for it, which was the going price @ the time for an average condition one. This was above average plus has the updated 20 hp engine & the bagger system. I offered him $1500. which he turned down . He was firm on the $1800.00. I left and decided to call him back the next day and buy it. I picked up hay most of the next day and late in the afternoon, I called him to tell him I would take it. He told me it was all sold. He sold the bagger system for $400 to one guy and the 318 for $1800.00 to another guy. I would still like to have one someday. Love that power steering.
