K 241AS - Gas coming from air intake / Surging

Recommended Posts

SylvanLakeWH

So I take the C105 out for a ride to warm her up for spring oil change and it starts bogging / surging...

Get back to garage and gas is dripping from air cleaner and it’s surging as in the video...

Ran perfectly all winter. No issues with about 8 plows, 3 driveways each time... so about 8 hours of run time since train pulling duties all last summer with no issues warm weather either...

Not an engine guy...Seeking wisdom from the experts - What am I looking at here?

At least I got the oil change was accomplished!

Junk in the (trunk) bowl. Or just it's time for a new needle and seat and a good carb cleaning.

Yep, clean the carburetor.  Do you have a quality fuel filter and are the fuel lines fresh?

You did a good job of confirming that your fuel pump is working fine!                      :text-bravo:

Oil change is the first step in your maintenance plan. Next you need to replace the fuel line, fuel and air filters and replace the needle and seat in the carburetor.

Fuel flowing out of the front of the carb is a clear indication of flooding. The float needle valve is not sealing. Besides checking and cleaning that as advised, also check the float itself. Brass floats can develop a hole and partially fill with fuel. Shake it right away after removing it and you'll know if it does.

The flooding is why your engine was running rough so once you cure the carb problem you should be all set.
