Got the welder out and gobbed the ball hitch adapter together for EJ the 8n's 3 point hitch.  Got some finishing work to do on the welds, then on to prime and paint.

 

I've got a cataract in my dominant eye that is affecting my depth perception.  Made this welding job kind of interesting.  I laid down a couple of really nice beads - right next to the joint

I've got my consulting visit with the eye doctor in  late October, so I'm on my way to getting it fixed.

NO cataracts yet, and I’ve done this more than I'd like to admit--especially frustrating when the bead is nice and smooth!

I did that multiple times in the last few weeks here, and my eyes are just fine.

 

It's the helmet, even undimmed the shaded helmet makes it hard to see where you are working.

Improved vision from cataract removal didn't improve my welding skills, but it did stop the night glare. I can drive at night again without turning away from the oncoming lights.    The return of colors was amazing.   It was like removing a very dark pair of gray sunglasses.

It took a while for me to cotton to my problem--it was wearing my photochromic (i.e. sun darkening) eyeglasses while welding that was further darkening beyond the auto-darkening helmet. The helmet lessens the light, but does not filter out the UV that triggers my glasses to darken. Switched to my “backup” clear lens eyeglasses when welding and I’m doing much better. I AM tempted to add a prescription insert that my helmet model can accommodate.

Today I rebuilt the hood locking mechanism on the C-141 and did errands and visited a cousin with my dad for most of the day. As far as welding goes I’ve never been able to do it as I couldn’t see well enough to do it. My eyes right now are the best they ever have been and I’ve been in glasses since I was four.

Neighborhood mowing entrepreneurs. They have a couple old riders to mow, push mower, & leaf blowers. They have about 20 accts in neighborhood. They stopped by to see if I could fix the trailer tire. Sometimes I fix their equipment for them. Glad to help them out. Besides the kids in neighborhood nicknamed me "tractor guy" Dont know how I got that name! Their trailer kinda raggedy.  I had a trailer I only used 1x & didn't need so I gave it to them. They were so appreciative.

Had a set of 3.50 x 8 tri-rib tires put on s set of old RJ wheels i had.  These 3.50 c 8’s look better on RJs than the 4.50s.

 

 

Also cleaned and painted a front tire i am trying to save from  the 1958 RJ i bought last week.  It had a tube filled with calcium chloride as both fronts were original tires and wheels from the factory 67 years ago.  
 

The tube valve was damaged and leaking and the wheel had two large rust holes do i had to try snd save the tire!  The tire is saved  and i have another wheel to use!  

 

i put a temporary replacement on hhe rj to facilitate working on the tractor!

My grandfather made a reference to being married over 50 years when he did our wedding. Later that night I told my wife I didn't want to be married for 50 years because I didn't want to get that old.
