Nope, no idea how many made it to the cylinder, but after I got the majority out, I fired it up, the rest were cremated I suspect.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  It has great patina. It is on the project list for a refresh on the chassis, driveline, and interior.  Think I'll leave the patina alone.  While I was unloading the truck at the recycling center, I noticed that the left rear tire sidewall was getting ozone checked.  Later on in the afternoon, I walked by and saw that the left rear was way down on air - guess it is time for new tires.

It is my free truck.  Bought it in the late 90s for $1200.  A lady ran a stop sign and caught me on the rear axle, spinning me.  Claimed I had hit her.  I had to ask her how I hit the FRONT of her car with the SIDE of my truck.  Her reply "I don't know, but you hit me!"  Had to walk away at that point.

Insurance paid $1500 and turned the title into a salvage title.  Bent axle, tweaked the frame a little, and folded the bottom of the box under ahead of the back wheel.  Had the axle replaced, and a good alignment shop got it running straight again.  Came out about $400 ahead.

The real entertaining part of this adventure was that a good friend from out of state was following me.  He stuck around as a witness until the police showed up.  Gave his story and drove off like he didn't know me.

Guess I'll have to post a picture.  Proper place for that would be the old truck thread.

Adding a picture for @ebinmaine:

I had one of them with a 4-bolt 350.  Heads were (196? Not 202s) and I could get into the engine compartment to work on it.

I wish I still had it.

Another sewer problem. Which is where this thread began.

Different drain and it's backing up into the inspection chamber in our garden.

I put rods in and nothing. That led to me neighbours inspection chamber, full of crapola.

That led to the next property.

Same thing, six houses down and still inspection chambers packed with crud.

I called our water company to sort it out as I can't use my water at all and everyone else in the chain is backing up to me. Hopefully someone may be out this evening or at the latest tomorrow morning.

Being at the wrong end of the line...yuck.

Someone’s been putting stuff down there that they shouldn’t have.

It's usually disposable nappies, the granules in them swell up when they get wet and they jam up in our 4inch sewer pipes.

It could be all the way to the main sewer line before they find what's blocking it.

But none of the other properties have reported a problem, so the water is going somewhere, even if the solids are accumulating in the chambers.

Of course I had to work today, which was just as well since the weather was awful most of the day. Then when I got home I got to work on my own car:

3FLP7YC.jpg

Approx 2 3/4 by 11 1/2 before I found good metal, so the bad spot was even bigger than I thought.

I have the patch cut and welded in, but I had a little trouble dialing the settings in to what was actually needed vs what the chart said I should use. Part of that was that there were a few spots on the vehicle that it still burnt through, and a few spots where the gap was a bit wide because I didn't exactly get either piece cut completely straight, so the weld is kinda ugly.

I'll grind it flat and run a second bead over it tomorrow, but I'd been sitting on the concrete for an hour or so, and my back was telling me about it.

Today, I fixed the lawn by evening it out. It had grown in patchy in the span between the new belt and the old shredding. I checked out the 308’s drive belt as it was making noise and rubbing. I haven’t decided if I want to dive into changing it or not.

@Mickwhitt My cousin years ago tried to check a septic tank at the family camp by cutting off the lid with a torch… needless to say it wasn’t a good idea. A shower was mandatory afterwards, he got covered in what was in the tank.

Your Daily driver??

Oh, lemme ask - you drive a Subaru???

that looks very similar to mine

- when we find our surprises after we change the Suspension while a spring cracks.

If you like to keep it  You are lucky,

No idiot before did try to hide it with some unprofessional overglued gunk

and afterwards tons of undercoat protection to hide the 🤬

A honestly little Rust can be fixed and you are good to go.

the look in my opinion is secondary, the function is important.

i go in form follows function.

My suggestion if you like to keep it

is check the whole Frame for dents and if you find - fix ‚em

Afterwards flood the whole Frame with fluidfilm and Wax as mix.30/70.

redo this all 2 years that protects you car or truck over years agains Salt

heat this mixture gently up at about 40-50*C and blow it in each opening and drainhole in the Frame with complressed Air.

At least the whole hidden frames.

The best rust protection i knew.

More like Winter Beater at this point.

It's a Ford Escape actually. And there were no other idiots before me to try and hide bad repairs. I bought this one new for my wife in 2010, right before we got married. I should coat the undersides of the vehicles like you say, but it just makes working on them so unpleasant. My hope is to just get it through the next few years, let my oldest drive it for a year or so when he starts driving in 2029, and if he doesn't wreck it I'll look at replacing it then.

Last year I had KROWN coat my 2010 F-150  ($180) and Mrs Ks 2024 Escape ($160).   It has stopped the existing 15 year old rust on the truck and turned it black like a rust reformer.

Yorkshire water came out to look at my drain problem this morning.

I worked with the two lads, lifting lids, looking into holes, helping with the jetting hose etc. I learned a load about the drains, where they go, what state they are in.

After finding the main blockage 400m away from my house they jetted it all clear and then mapped it with a GPS camera for future reference.

It was a public sewer that was blocked. So there was 400 metres of Sh1t backed up all the way to my property. No one had noticed as the water was leaking out of broken pipe joints leaving just the solid waste behind until it was completely full.

Total cost to me and my neighbours?  £0.00

Because it was a connecting sewer that ran under the properties it was the responsibility of Yorkshire water.

I can't imagine how much 5 hours of labour for two men along with the jetting truck and camera gear would have all cost.

My neighbours think I'm Saint Michael of the sewers now, white smoke is drifting from my chimney lol.

Peeled back the original weld and inspected it. It actually went down better than I thought. I still stitched back over the whole perimeter, and it looks much better. Not as pretty as some, but I am far from a professional welder. My training has all been very informal, learning from guys who actually know what they are doing as I need to do it.

It doesn't look as good as what I'd expect from a body shop, but the whole repair cost my $35. I'd have spent at least 10X that at a body shop.

Just had a minor earthquake somewhere nearby. No damage at our house but it definitely got my attention. It has been about ten years or more since our last seismic activity here but this one was much more noticeable.. .

The center of the quake was Maryville, TN, about 70 miles away. My niece lives nearby, called her but went to answer phone, probably talking to her mom.
