HyperPete 872 #8103 Posted April 30 I'm still working on Donna's garden (in between trips to the vet). I had garden soil delivered today, and because of rain last night, the dump operator wouldn't drive on my lawn. No problem, I'll just use the FEL! Unfortunately, I listened to the driver when he suggested putting a tarp down. It just slid around, tore, and generally got in the way. I'm the end, however, I got the soil in place. Now to get the wooden "frame" down, put down landscape fabric in the path in the middle (a path! a path! a path!) <- [for you Monty Python fans!], and then mulch. Oh, I also got some pea gravel for along the road. 😉

adsm08 3,235 #8109 Posted April 30 Today I gave my manager some heartburn, then came home and continued taking my work monitor apart. I finally found the back-light strip, now I just have to figure out how to fix it.

The trucks had gradually "eroded" enough lawn that I can't get my rider between the tree & the road any longer.

I got the light strip out, now it's just a matter of either finding the discontinued replacement, or someone who can repair the strip. And the replacement's advertised as being for it lower on that page are not actually correct. Edited May 1 by adsm08
HyperPete 872 #8113 Posted May 1 Ah, good luck with it. I knew an electronic genius in Marietta, but the last I spoke to him was probably in the late 1990s. He repaired a lot of monitors for me when I had my business. I can try looking him up see if I can find him for you. If he can't fix it, nobody can.
8ntruck 7,833 #8114 Posted May 1 I finally got all of the tounge and groove beadboard up on the porch cieling last weekend. Now, I've moved on to replacing the windows in the 3rd floor dormers. Got the first of three in this afternoon. Like most things in this 100 year old house, it is not a straightforward job. The new windows are Pella insert. However, the sills of the old windows tilt about 6 degrees towards the outside - no level spots, so I have to make wedge shaped shims to set the new windows on. Need to rework the outside trim to make stops for the new window. The south window will need a complete sill replacement, as the old one is excessively weathered. Got a quote for vinyl soffets and gutters for the porch. Included vinyl siding for the dormers. I won't come to the top of his schedule until next fall or winter.

8ntruck 7,833 #8116 Posted May 2 The owners of our favorite Oriental restaurant at our Mo location closed it down and moved to Atlanta earlier this year. We were disappointed. The new owners have recently opened an Oeiental restaurant with a similar menu. Last week, we had dinner there, ordering from the kitchen. Tonight we dined there again, this time at the hibachi grill. We are very happy with the service and the food there, making that restaurant still our favorite Oriental place in town. 2 1

I may need to get bigger ones. Today, besides placing the rocks, I cut the 4x6s to size for Donna's garden & cut the lawn. Now I have to align the wood properly, level it, and secure it before I can finish. She comes home tomorrow, I don't think I'll complete it before she does. 🥺
Mickwhitt 5,131 #8118 Posted May 2 Yesterday we went to a musical show in our local city. Bat outof hell by Jim Steinman. The album came out when I was 12 years old so it has been the soundtrack to me growing up. The show was absolutely amazing, music, dance numbers and lighting were simply fabulous. The lad who played the lead had a voice with such power! 1
HyperPete 872 #8119 Posted May 2 So, the pea gravel was too small. I had to get some bigger pebbles. I hope the FEL can lift them, they are up to 380 pounds.
8ntruck 7,833 #8120 Posted May 6 I exercised my ugly orange '72 Chevy C10 today. It has been the the repository for the spring yard clean up debris this. Took a heaping load to the city recycling/composting facility today. Hasn't been run in about 6 months. Once the carb filled up with fuel, it fired right off.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It has great patina. It is on the project list for a refresh on the chassis, driveline, and interior. Think I'll leave the patina alone. While I was unloading the truck at the recycling center, I noticed that the left rear tire sidewall was getting ozone checked. Later on in the afternoon, I walked by and saw that the left rear was way down on air - guess it is time for new tires. It is my free truck. Bought it in the late 90s for $1200. A lady ran a stop sign and caught me on the rear axle, spinning me. Claimed I had hit her. I had to ask her how I hit the FRONT of her car with the SIDE of my truck. Her reply "I don't know, but you hit me!" Had to walk away at that point. Insurance paid $1500 and turned the title into a salvage title. Bent axle, tweaked the frame a little, and folded the bottom of the box under ahead of the back wheel. Had the axle replaced, and a good alignment shop got it running straight again. Came out about $400 ahead. The real entertaining part of this adventure was that a good friend from out of state was following me. He stuck around as a witness until the police showed up. Gave his story and drove off like he didn't know me. Guess I'll have to post a picture. Proper place for that would be the old truck thread. adsm08 3,235 #8124 Posted May 7 Tonight I rearranged the garage (again) while the boy mowed. The 855 has a stable-mate for the next few days. We've been slow at work during a shop renovation, so I got my own car in for inspection today, and a rust spot on the "frame" (unibody gusset rail) that I have been keeping an eye on for about 3 years now finally got bad enough to fail. I cleaned up the garage enough to get the vehicle in, and I'll patch it Saturday afternoon. I wasn't going to drive it again this week anyway, but in it's current state its really only truly dangerous if someone rear-ends me.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #8125 Posted May 8 We had a large tree fall on the side yard, got out my old Sthil chainsaw and chopped it up. When I pulled out the log splitter, it wouldn’t start so I took off the air cleaner and the carb was loaded with ants! 4 2
