I'm a bit like a hit and miss engine myself.  When placed under a load I will do my best to accomplish the task at hand, when idling around I may let out a little poooof now and then.    :ychain:

In another topic was hit and miss engines.   They are almost memorizing watching and listening to them run.

At the Zagray Farm Museum in CT, they have a bunch on permanent display and at their spring, summer, and fall shows, members bring at least 50 more to show off. The biggest one used to power a city electric generating station! Hearing so many running at the same time is like an orchestra playing a symphony without a conductor.

Im doing a patio off the she shed with a pergola,  bar, & a fireplace.  There's gonna be an open area outside pergola & along side of garage.  Im going to put a hit/miss out there so I can sit out on patio listening & watching it.

Today I had an emergency dental appointment for a tooth that was giving me significant pain for the last 5 days. A bit of a grind on the crown that was put in a few months back plus antibiotic and Advil and I was good. I took the opportunity while I was in town to get a 4 inch steel pipe extension for the C-141 exhaust and two handles for the throttle and brake. After the appointment I’ve been antibioticed and adviled so I figured today was a rest day. I’ll hit it tomorrow morning and see where I get.

Threw the boy on the bus for camp. Wife and daughter ran off to go visit her aunt 2 hours away. I was going to go fishing, but the weather is pretty gross, so I'm watching old movies.

I'm also adding multiple tie down points.

Started messing about with that experiment today too.

I used a 3" forstner bit and two smaller paddle bits to create a pocket.

IMG_20250712_192737.jpg

After mentally processing this whole tie down points idea for several weeks and speaking/ texting to multiple people I've decided to change course for the immediate future.  For now, we only need attachment points for 4 machines.

There are two things occurring to me of late.

1. I don't think it's going to be practical to try to reach UNDER the tractors using a bunch of high strength straps because there isn't enough room to move there.

2. I really want straps to go OVER the top of the transmission tunnels sideways.

I WAS thinking that the better way to go would be to move the orientation of the D rings. The BBT/ Lead Trailer Modifications Consultant and I had an on-site meeting this morning to blabberate the situation.

This particular trailer has 4 existing tie down steel loops. Using all 4 plus the front rail we can have two straps over each tractor with good tension and angles.

I'll still install the front two because they'll be usable for multiple reasons.

Later on, when we can haul 6 tractors with a stronger tow vehicle, we'll reconsider the side mount attachment points by location and count.

Weather cleared up, but too late to hit the lake.

I am currently working on trying to fix the dripping shower. I got the cartridge out in one assembly with the handle, which is stuck, and yes I got the set screw out.

I am soaking it in CLR and watching Red Green for inspiration.

The problem now is, I can shut off the hot water at the heater outlet. but the only place to shut off the cold water is at the meter where it comes in, so I have no water.

Also, an episode run time dovetails nicely with how long the CLR bottle says to let things soak.

That was a cluster. And it still isn't 100% done.

Of course I broke the old cartridge trying to get the handle off. So I went to the store, and the style of valve I had they don't carry any parts for anyway. I don't know if it's obsolete, or contractor-only crap, or what, but nobody around me had one, so I bought a whole Delta kit. Of course the valve I was replacing had all female threads, and all of the available replacements had male threads, a detail I overlooked until I was home. Local Ace doesn't carry shark-bites, which is how 3 of the 4 lines were attached, so I tried FIP adapters, which of course made everything too long to fit. So I had to go back down to Load's for shark-bites with female threads. Got those in, stuck a pipe plug in the bottom port until I can get the hard-line for the lower spigot modified, so I will have to take it all apart again, but at least the shower works.

It doesn't seem to get as hot as it used to though. And it already wasn't hot enough for me most days.

Weeded around my vegetables. Re staked  some of them since we had wind this week while we were in NJ. Restocked the farm “stand” and more weeding tommorow. But will be able to use a few tractors tommorow at least.

Betsy and I took a nice boat ride with our friends up the Merrimack river from Newburyport to Haverhill.

Tied up at the town dock and had lunch at "The Tap".

Crused back down river to Newburyport and hung out on the boat for a while

with a couple of cocktails.

All in all, an awesome day! Beats mowing the lawn!

Times like this, I miss our boat.

I feel your pain!
I live 7 miles from town. I keep a fair supply of pvc, shark bites etc plumbing fitting. But, the universe has an unwritten rule that all plumbing projects must take a minimum of three trips to town for parts and those trips must go to multiple stores because everyone just sold their last fitting you need.

Got on the 314 and carried a hand sprayer to hunt down plantains .We call them buckhorn as well

These things love lawns like no other weed and my experience growing up mowing Dad's yard made me hate them. Muw one day and the ugly seed heads were up the next.

They come up from seed and love to hitch a ride if you mow more than one yard. You have to continually spray them because new ones appear every week for a month. So I hunted probably the last ones and plan to spray the entire yard to get the other stuff for next spring

Most shower valves have an anti scald device that needs to be adjusted for hotter water.

Assembled park bench #3 and #4.     I have bought 3 of these benches at the auction for $5 & 7 and the cast iron black one was a gift from @Dan 312-8.

Thanks again Dan, I was able to straighten and hold the shape of the old slats be making a center rib.  Hope it meets your approval.

I've been working on these old park benches for 5-6 weeks.  Now I can get back to work on the 314A gift project from @c-series don.

I need a few more bolts to finish bolting the center rib to straighten the slats on this green one.

Looks great Ed! It’s nice to see it being put back to use again and not leaning up against my basement wall in pieces. And you are welcome.

More shut-offs will be in the works. But this was a "needed done fast" job, not a "lets do everything on the wish list' job. Also, its not that hard to shut off my water. One butterfly valve in the basement. Took me longer to move the pile of crap the wife had stacked in front of it, than it did to flip the valve.

I will have to look into adjusting the temp. This is my first foray into this type of device.

We've had family visiting the last few days.  My wife's siblings, their kids and grandchildren, and great grandchildren.   Both of our kids and the oldest's wife also were able to visit.  Had about 20 yesterday.  The deck we built last year and the Blackstone grill got a very good workout this weekend.  The lake house was full, too.  Good time was had by all.

I finally got some time this afternoon to help my youngest son troubleshoot and fix a headlight wiring issue on his car.  Turns out to be a bad ground.  We also got into a turn signal issue, which turned out to be a bad connector.  Didn't get it fixed, but we determined that he needs to cut the old connector off of the wiri g harness and splice a new one on.

Progress on house maintenance was made.  The roofers are going to show up next week to install a new metal roof.  However, this progress was offset by a wetsuit and a whif of septic tank on the lake house system.

Got to schedule a pump truck and inspection this week.  All of the visitors there this weekend compressed maby 6 weeks of typical use of the system by my wife and I into 3 days.  I'm going to guess that the drain field has slowed down.  Goody, goody, goody.  We've got visitors next weekend to.  Hopefully a pumping will patch the system up enough to get us through the weekend, while we get a diagnosis and schedule a fix.

I had that problem a couple of years ago.

When I dig up the septic tank lids for pumping there was liquid flowing out the top of the tank.

Started digging up the pipe in the leaching field  and found the problem.

Pipe was broken and plugged with dirt.

There is a large maple tree close by so I thought tree roots would be the problem but there were none.

12' of new perforated pipe fixed it up.

Luckily the rest of the field seems good.

I dug the tank up again last year and had it pumped.

Liquid level was good so field is doing it's job now.
