I'm going to pour it into a glass measure before using. I will report any sludge problems. I would imagine that if I just poured it into the engine it would mix pretty rapidly anyway.
MainelyWheelhorse 1,320 #8252 Posted June 1 (edited) Today on this gray rainy day, I took some tractor parts to my parents to be welded/machined. I also started drilling out a granite house number post to mount the plate next to it. . it’s going to take a while…. Putting things in totes. Moving from upstairs to downstairs. Moving from downstairs to upstairs. Even swapped some things building to building. Also did some construction. Trina and her momma built in another place for storage upstairs. I started assembly on the new exercise rack. I get tired just reading all you do. ----- Today I flushed & refilled the coolant in the Mahindra & greased all fittings. Cleaned it pretty well, and ordered all 5 filters, a fuel filter float bowl, & manual. Need to buy 6 gallons of universal hydraulic fluid & 5 quarts diesel oil (Rotella 15W40). Adjusting brakes & replacing the WP/Alternator belt is on the list, too. Previous owner wasn't good with maintenance. 🥺 See "coolant", below. Razorback 1,091 #8256 Posted June 1 (edited) We mowed the yard yesterday evening (our lot is almost an acre, mostly back yard). Today, I got the Wheel Horse out and aerated the yard first, then installed the cultivators and took care of the garden. I made myself a promise that I would make a point of keeping up with the garden this year, to NOT EVER have to MOW IT this year! So far, so good. Picked a bucket full of leaf lettuce, the first of the season, and enjoyed the heck out of that this evening. Edited June 1 by Razorback 6
8ntruck 7,595 #8257 Posted June 2 I woke EJ the 8N up from his winter hibernation. Did a little brush hogging, and moved some limestone blocks around with a strong arm. Had a bit of an oopsie, though. Found myself rolling backwards down a hill in neutral with marginal brakes. Took an unexpected ride into the puckerbrush before I ended up against a tree. Got lucky - nothing damaged, no injuries. I've really got to at least get the brakes cleaned - pretty sure the axle seals are kaput. 1 1
Pullstart 65,599 #8258 Posted June 3 @8ntruck I’ll see you in the bumps and bruises pal! I went through the 13 pages of buy sell trade and made a list of what I committed to. Forgot about most of it!
8ntruck 7,595 #8259 Posted June 4 More work out in the woods. I did some work with my brush saw clearing the undergrowth in the next 100 yards of future driveway. Next step is to do chainsaw work on the many trees too big for the brush saw. Temperature here near 90 - thats OK, the humidity is low. But enough was enough. Ran the string trimmer up and down the 200' of roadside ditch and trimmed along the driveway I have roughed in - again, enough is enough in that heat. While I was trimming on the ditch and driveway, I suddenly realized that a 3 or 4 foot sickle bar on a Wheel Horse would make that task considerably easier. Always thought that they were neat, but really didn't have need for one. Guess I just thought of a use. With the heat kind of messing up my physical labor work plans, I went to one of the local tractor dealers and treated EJ the 8N to a Bad Boy 6' box blade. Got it back to the property and played with it while moving it to its storage spot. Just one pass makes the driveway look much better. Once I get the blade tilt tuned in and develop my touch on the lift lever refined, I think it will do what I want. 2
SkyCrafter 5 #8260 Posted June 4 Wow, sounds like a seriously tough day! Not the kind of “tractor work” you had in mind, I’m sure. Glad you managed to sort out the repair—hope tomorrow’s backfilling goes a bit more smoothly! 💪🚜

Sickles can be vulnerable to damage from stones, larger saplings, broken branches, etc. You might consider a flail mower instead--much less vulnerable to damage. They are not easy to find but not too difficult to adapt.

I'll bet the locals at the gas station wonder why you're filling your tool box with fuel. Actually that's a pretty neat setup your made for yourself.
