8ntruck 6,376 #5456 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) Well, I'm clear of the city building office, but I've been drawn into the local medical system. My wife was feeling poorly last Friday, so we got her a Covid test. Yup, she tested positive. So far, it has been a mild case for her. Monday night, I started getting the chills and feeling tired. Tuesday morning, my blood sugar check was 23 points over my usual range. I took a Covid test, coming up positive. Since I have type 2 diabetes and am on blood pressure medication, I called my doctor back in Michigan. The advice that came back was to go to a walk in clinic and get some anti viral pills. So, out to the pharmacy in a couple of hours to pick the pills up. When I get to the pharmacy, they have the Covid pills, but tell me that the insurance company has denied my prescription for my blood sugar test stripes. Same ones they have been paying for for several years. Guess I'm in for some quality phone time with them tomorrow, At this point, the Covid feels kind of like a sinus infection. I understand that soldering is the best, but some of the connections I make will never be out in the elements. I can't point you to the best place to buy, things change over time. Pretty much spent the rest of the day watching the live stream of the robotics meet that the team I mentor attended this week. We had a good outing. The 'varsity' team ended up as the #1 seed going into the playoffs, while the 'Jr. varsity' team ended up as the #2 seed. The playoffs were in a double elimination format, going into a best of 3 final round. The two teams ended up in the finals. Turns out the varsity team had some machine issues and lost to the jv team. By winning the meet, the jv team is now qualified for the world championship meet held at the end of the season. The varsity team still has 2 more meets to play, so all hopes of attending the world championships is not lost for them. 3 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Achto 26,566 #5465 Posted March 7, 2023 (edited) Last night we got 4" of wet heavy slop. Did not have time to deal with it this morning so it was still there when I got home from work this evening. Given the fact that there was all this snow that had the consistency of white cow manure, I did what any sane tractor addict would do. I got my lawn mower running. New / used Briggs & Stratton I/C engine is installed and my Swisher ready for duty. Runs, drives, and the mower deck does a great job blowing snow. Unfortunately the crank shaft on the new engine was not designed to utilize the pull start so the recoil starters only purpose now is to serve as a belt guard, but I'm OK with that. I feel a lot better knowing that the piston is sliding up & down in a cast iron cylinder as opposed to the old engine that had an aluminum bore. Least if this engine fails it is worth rebuilding. First Ice storm took out 1 tree and a lot of branches from 5 others. Heavy snow last week just destroyed 3 others that were already denuded by DTE line trimming and the ice storm... Got 4 coats of Rustoleum Top Coat Boat paint on an old pair of oars I picked at the auction. I had to replace one edge with a piece of white oak.
