New Seat recommendations for my 1990 520

Recommended Posts

1990Onan520-H

Hey all, looking for a replacement seat for my 1990 520. I have a pretty bad back so would like one that's comfortable with arm rests similar to the factory seat. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was debating a suspension seat, but they're god awful expensive and I've read some reviews that people spent $400 and aren't even happy with them.

I found this guy that got pretty good reviews and looks Wheel Horseyy. Anyone ever used this one? I haven't checked to see if it will bolt up yet, but I'm sure I can make a bracket if need be.

WHX??

Suspension seats generally don't work ... they will lift you too high. I like the one you posted for a working gal. I have no experience with it tho but wouldn't be afraid to get that one. Replacement seats have been discussed a byzillion times here but times change.

I bought a couple similar ones from tractor supply and love them. The back rest is a bit different. I wound up shimming the back rest forward and tilting the whole seat slightly forward so I can sit straight reaching all controls while having my back in full contact with backrest all the time. You also sit a little higher that on the stock one which for me with long legs is better. I can now ride and use all controls without leaning forward or leaning back too far.

This is the one I put on my 95 a couple years back... You will have to make brackets but other that that it was 99% identical to my Anniversary 520H seat and a bit softer to boot also has provisions for the factory arm rests ...https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_8258_8258 ... The other seat I would recommend from TSC or NT is the "Kubota" replacement from Black Talon ... https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200490177_200490177... JMHO these 2 look the closest as a factory replacements with out the price.  Also here's a shorter back version that @cleat likes... https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200519222_200519222.   Pic 3 is the Toro seat on my 96.

When you do decide on a seal let us know how it works and if it bolts up easily.

Awesome. How hard was it to make a bracket? Don't happen to have any pics do you? Also that low back Kabota seat is the exact seat I have on my 88. Very comfortable seat. I just kind of wanted to keep the arm rests on my 90.

The low back Cub Cadet seat has provisions for the arm rests and if I'm not mistaken @cleat has installed them on his WITHOUT fabricating new mounts... I used Northern Tools seat adjusters look a pic 2 in my post above.

The arm rests on my seats are pretty beat, so I'm looking for a seat that also comes with new arm rests.

Looks really nice. Does that bolt right up to our factory mounts? Also how soft is that seat? Nice a comphy?

It's definitely soft... Mounting IDK.

I just put one of these on my mom's mower a few weeks ago.  I don't know if she's used it yet or not, but just to sit in it it was much better than the original seat it replaced.  Don't know if they've got a model with arm rests or not.

I checked with a very experienced upholstery shop about redoing a 520H seat and he said no way.  Those seats were molded with heat and can’t be duplicated without building a very expensive mold.
