As wide as those tires are the load center the bearings feel will be about the same as a stock 12" wheel and tire.       :twocents-02cents:

Besides, that is such a COOL LOOK!   @pullstart should build a :wh: dragster rather than a dump truck.

Well the slicks are junk, but I agree they look awesome!  There’s interference still with the fan, but it’s toast and will need to be replaced anyways.

It’s funny we brought up ASA racing @oilwell1415.  One of these wheels has two valve stems.  On tracks such as MIS and Dover, the speeds were so high they were required to use an inner liner.  It was basically a tire inside a tire in case the outer skin were to blow.  They had a better chance of making it to the pits on some air instead of no air and body on ground.

I think we need the extra width...

My next goal is to compare the hood height to axle compared to a normal sized square hood.  I am going to try to stick to my blueprints with the hood higher than the box... if I build an unorthodox hood stand/firewall, it will give more leg room for side by side seating.

@wallfish another safety idea...  the parking pawl actually works on this transmission.  I wonder if I could do a linkage type mechanism to allow forward or reverse pedal movement to automatically lift the parking pawl, then engage it again if they let off?  It seems easier than controlling throttle in that manner.  Then I’d have live hydraulics for the dump.

Does that parking pawl take a bunch of force to engage the brake or does that just lock the motion in neutral?

Throttle could be controlled by an electric solenoid actuator and a switch at the pedal. Just linking this to give you an idea instead of mechanical linkage. Fly by wire! LoL It's best to always default to no power, no throttle or no drive for safety reasons so the solenoid would need to be designed for continuous use and not have a duty cycle. This could always be used to cut the ignition too like a seat switch or something. That might get your safety for the girls without a bunch of crazy mechanical linkage and then it's very easy to bypass whenever they're ready :twocents-02cents:

https://www.jameco.com/z/SH-T2551L-Solenoid-12V-Pull-Type-Solenoid-10-Watt_2196748.html?CID=MERCH

Will that engine fit under the bed and behind the seat? Equals more leg room and easy to route the drive belt :twocents-02cents:

:confusion-confused:       Wouldn't the truck be in motion when you "let off"?  Considering the added weight this unit will have and your safety needs for the girls you might want to think about a pair of :wh: D axles with turning brakes. The wider axles will provide more stability and the turning brakes would provide good mechanical stopping power.

Dick makes a good point.

What about reversing the rims so the deep dish is facing the trans. With a shaft coupler and a bearing you can keep the tires tight but allow some shaft room to add stuff. Just think'n out loud

I agree about the parking pawl and the momentum of a moving tractor not mixing well.  Better to actuate it manually like a normal parking brake.

Since you mentioned adding wheel spacers, my inner engineer is doing cost/benefit analysis again.  Did you know that Bart Wheels makes wheels that look almost exactly like those in 15x10 with a variety of backspacing options in the $50-60 range?  You could get those with the correct bolt pattern and backspacing and not have to use anything between the hub and wheel.  Just set the wheels you have where you want them, measure/calculate what the backspacing needs to be to get them there, and order them up.

@oilwell1415 your inner engineer is pretty smart.  I didn’t think of aftermarket steelies.  I have 3” long studs coming and have a family member who’s laser cutting shop seems to always be looking for ways to test their abilities... like a 3/4” thick steel spacer, etc.  their samples usually fit pretty good by the time they get to me ;)

I don't know about smart, but my inner engineer is really good at spending other people's money.  But like I said before, I try to choose my battles.  I generally value my time at $50-60 per hour.  If it takes me two hours to fab something that I can buy for $50 that's a no brainer to me; I'll buy it every day of the week and twice on Sunday unless it's just something I really want to put my touch on.  In this case, if you buy new wheels you might as well buy new tires and all of a sudden you've got $350 invested.....but that also allows you to choose your tire size and I'd probably go to a 295/50/15 that's a little shorter than what you've got to drop the rear a little bit.  It's a vicious cycle.

Woah woah woah.  I really like those tires!  :teasing-poke:  Your figures make sense and I appreciate the eye opener once in a while.  The rest of the time, ignorance is bliss.

Odds are, I’ll work with what I can around here to make something from a bunch of nothings.  I just enjoy tinkering out there and once in a while letting the fruits of my creativity make a little money.    Here are some examples of the random jobs that come into my shop, because of word of mouth and talking about these tractors:

Oh, come on.  We can easily get your investment in this over $5,000.  Won't even be hard.  But I hear you.  I try to do the same things, but my drive to tinker tapered off a lot when tinkering was my job.  TBH, getting my 552 is the first I've really wanted to tinker in probably 15 years.  I also like to turn nothing into something.  I've been trying to find something to do with my wood working scraps for a years and think I've finally found a way to make a few bucks on them by making wooden letter out of them.  I'm going to give that a shot and see what happens.

$5,000??

That's it??

I'm telling you right now if we're careful selecting we can get him to spend more than $5,000 on wheels and tires alone.

I know what you mean about the lack of desire for tinkering.

Thankfully I've come through that phase of my life and I absolutely love messing around with this stuff if you hadn't begun to tell already.

Glad to hear you are headed that direction as well.

I like your idea about the wood scraps.

Sure guys, let’s make this Redneck’s budget build into a reality TV show.  Pimp my Horse, Trick my :wh: Dump Truck, HorseyHaulin’, Back 40 Chopper... maybe it’ll generate some revenue for the build!

Isn't this like the home buying shows?  The husband is a journeyman fry cook in the fast food industry and the wife is a failing author and they have a home buying budget of $625,000.

Pretty much!  Husband is a self employed seasonal working home school parent and wife is an office worker at the local factory.  :D

I don't understand the problem here. I mean you can't expect  somebody with an income like that to spend $650,000? That's just too much.

I am not sure if this is funny or dumb.  I have been trying to figure out a shorter hood.  The Commando hood is 4” shorter.  I can drill spot welds and replace the nose!

We just gained 4” more leg room!

Also, while messing around with these wheel adapters so much, I realized I have two hubs that are NOT frozen to the axle shafts!  Thanks Kyle @fast88pu for the roller last year!
