My crazy ideas

Recommended Posts

Mudrig150

For a kid with no money, I have a lot of ideas.

Here's a list of the ones I have written down.

Wheel horse Automatic frame with Magnum 14, upgraded steering, forward swept axle

Wheel Horse Suburban frame with K181 engine

Wheel Horse Round hood with biggest engine that fits, 8 speed tranny

John Deere 200 series frame with Magnum 14 and Wheel Horse hydro trans

Cub Cadet 1282 with K321 and heavier air cleaner

The ones I'm liking are are the first 3.

My 502 “Putt Putt” has a K-181T, the largest engine that fits under the hood, along with an 8 speed.  I’ll say, it’s quite the beast and you’re on to something there.  As for a big block engine under a round hood, that takes extensive modifications... like my “Frank” build for my wife.

as for the other brands, I’m limited to no experience.  But if you’ve got an idea, maybe a grinder and a welder, go for it!

:text-yeahthat:

if you have the Place, do things you‘re imagine.

As a Boy, i had also rare Money but a lot of ideas.

some things i do it my Way, that was experiences, i can access now.

To get things i liked, i get sometimes things from Scrapyard and reworked them.

That has two advantages, once you learn a lot, second you can build things youself.

i guess everybody is proud, if he put things together and they‘re workin.

If things fail, don‘t be afraid of them, that‘s part of the process.

But if you do one thing by yourself, you will be honesty proud, and this will be respected from anybody, they did it so.

Some fun ideas there.  Reminds me of a host of guys on here who fab up all kinds of cool tractors—Only limited by their imagination, finances, or ability.

the most modified tractor in our corral at this time is my Son’s Cub Cadet that we call Grizzly.

This tractor originally came with a Kohler 10hp single but now has a Briggs Vanguard 16hp v-twin

It has a custom hydraulic hitch for plowing!

Here you can see the frame gussets required and custom hydraulic controller

The stacks are raucous but cool at the same time.  Sounds like a Harley at idle much like Craig’s SUPER cool round hood!

Custom four gallon under the seat with electric fuel pump feeding the beast.

Really, I think all you ideas are cool and I can’t wait to see which one you do first!

Keep those ideas and it will progress over the years until you do have the time and money. I was just like that when I was younger and have now built all kinds of different things.

@Tractorhead is spot on. Build the things you can with what you have or can find now. Modify the stuff you have. Then graduate to bigger stuff as time and money allows. You'll get there

Well I already have a magnum 14 and a whole lotta ambition and 2 very unique Deeres. I mean, you see what I'm going for, H2 10 Hp JD 140 and M18 JD 317 with an eventual custom 3 point on it.

The second word of the title describes my life perfectly... Hectic, and crazy, or as I call it: Motor Swap Madness!

@pullstart I was reading your thread about the Mrs' tractor, and I see that you took a charger automatic frame to get the round hood look on a hydro frame, right? That gives me an idea... I'll be back in a bit.

Yep, Frank is a Charger 12, 10 hp engine, 753 tins, lots of customization to make it all work.

Hm. Seems somebody already built an idea I like it.

Charger 9, original paint, with HL-5 and a magnum.

Here's my idea:

Wheel Horse 1276 style Hydro tractor

Swap M14 wide base to narrow base block

Round hood and dash, raise 1"

Hydraulic lift setup

Thoughts?

I didn’t have to raise the dash any, just the nose of the hood about 3”.

I'm just going to redrill the holes an inch higher.

Depends. Don't most of the dashes only mount with 4 bolts?

@pullstart For the build, I'll just be swapping the M14 internals to my K321 wide base block then cutting the ears off, putting a shallow pan on it, and then stretching and raising the hood, same as you did. Some floor boards to replace the stirrups, if the tractor I find even has them. The one thing that is definetely making me scratch my head is how much I'd need to cut the hood to make the M14 flywheel shroud fit...

It’ll have to be a bridge you cross when you get there, indeed.

Yep. The only thing I gotta get for the motor is, if I have to swap the pan, a shorter dipper for the rod. The hydraulic lift will just use the H1 valve from my JD 140.

Do you have a 1276, or is that just a reference for the size and transmission you want to start with?

Just a reference. It's one of the more well known early hydros. If I find a roller anywhere, then good. Only ones I've been able to find are later ones, though...

You are pretty far away. Worst part is we can only have stuff delivered right now...

I have. Might end up asking in my other WH group just to see if anyone got anything.
