Got a question about the starter generator light. When the light is on does this mean it is charging?

Light should come on when you turn on the switch and stay on while cranking until the engine runs and the Generator starts putting out.  What is your battery voltage engine off and what is it engine running? Should be 12.6 and about 14

To double check measure battery voltage.

Start engine and see if voltage increases. If it does it is charging.

Bad wiring to the light can cause it to light.

At an idle the generator light is usually on, once it idles up more, then it goes out. Are you saying it should even be out at an idle?

It should be out at idle.  Of course you have to consider Kohler considered idle speed to be about 1250.

I set my idle by ear, and it seems like its pretty high,  when it's out seems quite high for just idle. Don’t  have any problem charging the battery.
