Kohler no spark

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I know I’m gonna catch trouble for not working on a wheel horse but a co worker has a Allis 310 with a kohler engine with no spark. Here’s the troubling part. It’s not a points system. It has a system I’ve never seen in any small engines. Here’s a picture of the coil and the wiring diagram. On the wire coming from the flywheel I have a trigger wire coming out that pulses ground and the other wire from the key switch had the power it’s supposed to. The wiring diagram shows those 2 together but there’s no spark. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

Thats called a CDI system, sorry to say either the black box or the trigger is dead. now its time to change it to a points style system.

I looked at that but the block isn’t tapped to add the points in. There’s the start of the hole for the plunger but no mounting bracket holes

@Aldon has documented the steps you need to take.

The wiring diagram you posted appears to have some serious mistakes in it.

The ignition switch terminal locations can't be correct or I'm loosing my marbles.

A -M and S-B should be switched.

That may be what cooked the ignition.

I presume this is an Allis Chalmers drawing. They may have their own ignition switches.
