CodyB 1 #1 Posted September 21, 2019 My temp light comes on after running for 30 seconds. It can't seriously be overheating that fast. I turn it off once the light comes on, just in case. Could it be a bad sensor or something? Where would I find it if so, and how might I check it? Tried searching, but couldn't find anything specific. I'm pretty new to small engines. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
lynnmor 7,823 #2 Posted September 21, 2019 There is a sensor on the cylinder head at the right front of the engine. It may be bad or the wire to it is shorting to ground anywhere along its path.
953 nut 60,067 #3 Posted September 21, 2019 It is a good idea to remove the engine covers and clean out any accumulated grass clipping and other debris that may be preventing the engine from being cooled properly. Bottle brushes work great. 1
CodyB 1 #4 Posted September 22, 2019 @953 nut Thanks for the advice- I actually haven't mowed with it since purchasing it from a guy who had recently restored it and re-done the engine, and also never mowed with it. I don't think there is any junk in the fins... but I will check anyway. @lynnmor Thanks- I was wondering where the sensor is. I'll check tomorrow. I used it today trying to run the tiller a bit. This time the light came on after about 10 minutes of running it. And then after letting it sit for 45 minutes or so, it was still on when I started it up. If you have a friend with a Non-Contact Pyrometer (AC man, mechanic etc.) you may want to borrow it to see if there is a problem with overheating.
lynnmor 7,823 #6 Posted September 22, 2019 There should be no continuity between ground and the terminal of the temperature sensor till the engine overheats. See page 7-
