Buzz 502 #1 Posted September 1, 2019 I've been having some health issues the past couple of years so after a 911 call and ambulance ride they put a pacemaker in 2 weeks ago. I was out of the hospital 16 hours later. Feel good just not supposed to do any thing strenuous or drive for a bit. They were going to put a solar powered one in but I didn't want my head shaved or not be able to wear my Wheel Horse hat 18

rmaynard 16,299 #8 Posted September 2, 2019 Glad to hear you are doing better, but inquiring minds (nosy people) want to know...what were your symptoms that prompted the installation of the electronics?

My pulse rate was all over the place sometimes it dropped down into the 30s and I would suddenly feel exhausted and other times it would go over 100 for no reason at all. They tried to control it with meds but no luck. The day I went to the ER it went to 119 while I was sitting so Carol called the doctor and he said call 911. So here I am. The pacemaker won't let the heart rate go under 60 BPM and they can control the upper end with the meds. Funny thing is there was absolutely no pain with the surgery, no pain meds, no aspirin. rmaynard 16,299 #11 Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) @Buzz Thanks for the info. Amazing what the old ticker will do to you. I'm glad everything is going well for you. I've been having a fit with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. That is the type that occurs sometimes and then stops. AFib stops by itself and the heart returns to normal rhythm. It may last for seconds, minutes, or hours before the heart returns to its normal rhythm. As the heart goes in and out of AFib, my pulse rate change from slow to fast and back again in short periods of time. It drives me crazy. The doctor is trying to control it with meds, but I'm still having trouble, especially at night, which leads him to believe that I have sleep apnea, which can trigger AFib attacks. Getting old sucks, but it still beats the alternative. Edited September 2, 2019 by rmaynard
dcrage 630 #12 Posted September 3, 2019 (edited) Bob, @rmaynard Has your MD talked about doing ablation yet? I had AFib for years and have been under the car of an electro physiologist for the last 5+ yrs. He would have performed ablation when he first start seeing me if not for my artificial valves (causes extra risk). Finally had to have the procedure last summer and worked well, not perfect but much better. Ask if you have any questions.
