The "Colossus" project

If you didn’t already, it would be a great idea to check flatness with a straight edge and feeler gauges on that piece of steel EB.  :handgestures-thumbupright:  It looks stamped/sheared and that often times gives it a slight tuna can effect where it bends it as it cuts.

Absolutely correct and thank you for putting it in writing for others to see.

I did remember to check this one with a good quality old fashioned Starrett Tools ruler.

:handgestures-thumbupright:

It did have edges that were curled up on two sides of the four.

I used the sandpaper to knock a couple of ridges down and put it on the table curled side facing down. That's where the clamps are.

We need to all start posting what we didn't get finished today. "Here" or what we planed to do to day and didn't get to and general bull ___ topics. It will fit right in with EB's build and help EB with more page numbers.

Now now... Mustn't be hasty... :angry-nono:

See Post 1480 for historical perspective... :techie-hourglass:

:coffee:

Edit:

Added text of Post 1480 for those unable to search that far back into the archives of this thread:

———-

“Just some perspective to keep @ebinmaine’s honor in tact… :teasing-signhere:

According to multiple innerweb resources it took 12 years to complete the Original Colossus of Rhodes…  (on the web so it must be true…) :handgestures-thumbupright:

Post 1 of this thread was August 31, 2019. So really, when August 31, 2031 rolls around, we should get nervous… I mean, even with BBT, we can’t expect this beast - what will become the 8th Wonder of the world - to take less time than the original can we…? :confusion-confused:

I'm hoping to have it drivable at least slightly before that...

I'm also hoping that at that point I look as cool as this dude above surrounded by candles and old dusty papers...

That my friend is Gandalf the Grey, searching in the great Archives of Minas Tirith - Capitol City of Gondor, during the Third Age of Middle Earth. Lord of the Rings fans know how much dust he blew off that document…!

well, say a guy, doesn’t much enjoy movies and stories and such, that are so far fetched… and more enjoys pointing out bad flaws in movies, like the the 13 times they shifted the car in the opening scene of fast and the furious… how would he know how many galdalfs fell off a scroll in the dirt cave?

Well… how many times have you fallen broken cracked twisted or otherwise needed :auto-ambulance:???

And what us fast and furious about…?

 :wh:‘s going really really slow…?

And for the record Gandalf didn’t fall in the archives… it was at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm… where he uttered the famous “Fly you fools..,!” Which, I can relate to…

68 pages yet? :occasion-clown:

Got these super snazzy weights from @Mows4three via a buddy of his.  The BBT met him in Portsmouth NH this morning to get them and a garden plow.

As you can see they measure 14-3/8" OD.

Weight is 55 lbs each.

They'll be great on the rear wheels.

Likely I'll install Cub 25 lb weights on the 12" front to match these.

"BEEFY" Those weights will "pop" against the light color of the rims. I see it's the pleasure of the building process, look forwards to being creative yet another day....

I'm curious to see what color is recommended by The Paint Department.

I'd do Apple Red.

She may have different alternatives related to the "metal colored" theme.

Given that the lug nuts are anodized red, a dark metallic of some sort would be good too.

@"Manic-Mechanic"

That's the basic look I'm thinking of right there. Apple red is a tad  brighter.
