Will be getting some decals to that effect from @Vinylguy soon... need to think on it a bit since I do not want anything “nice” detracting from the the junkyard look...

 

Couple hundred pounds just in the 1/2” link chain...

 

Used almost exclusively junk in the garage and son’s leftovers from previous projects...

Dually’s:  

 

Back on this idea for the WHrat WHrecker  and think I’m going to do it... looking for advice. Have reviewed the dually thread elsewhere and will be building my own spacers...

 

Two options with materials on hand:

 

1. X pattern 2x4 stack 3 deep should get me the 1.5 - 2” space I need between the tires with the bolts going through the air space formed by the x.

 

2. Another of the son’s projects (backyard ski hill with 12” pvc pipe for grinding on) is awaiting reuse. Thinking of cutting 3” or so band off the pvc pipe and using the ring to form the spacer. Measures up almost exactly to inside rim lip...

 

Running 23x9.5x12 Carlisle turf masters. 

 

I think I will need 14” bolts to make it happen. I have 10” bolts and they just touch the other rim with tires flush with old 23x8.5x12’s on the extra rims...have not bought the new extra dually tires yet...

 

Any benefits or problems with either approach?

Using the pipe as a solid spacer would keep most of the dirt out of the area between the wheels

Spent the early morning with my friend and neighbor trying to cut the pvc dually spacers “square” ... with no luck. Used a band saw and made a cradle jig to turn the pipe in but no go...it kept cutting on just enough of an angle to be of no use...

 

We were cutting 2” slices off of a 2’ section of pipe since the whole thing is 12’ long and weighs a ton...

 

Gave up and going back to the wood idea unless you guys have better idea...???

Maybe I am over thinking this because of tube size...perhaps I could mark it but without a square pipe edge - How do I get to exact 2” slice dimension on a 12” round object?  

 

We checked the jig square and it was dead nuts on but still cut on slight angles... maybe the blade   

 

if I spin it on the jig to mark it that might work...?

It was just two parallel boards 2x2’s spaced so the pipe was just off the saw base and could rotate to cut...

I have never relied on a bandsaw to cut anything straight and in a situation like this, I have a lathe that could true up the ends.  If we were closer, I'd have you bring the PVC or steel and get them cut and squared away in no time.

I would suggest a rusty metal primer, then Regal Red on that pasty white   good work, Jim!

If you paint the PVC.sand it lightly toro give the paint something to anchor to on that slick plastic

Well here she is...

 

I like it!

 

Ended up swapping the new rear tires on this one with my other C 105 due to height difference to get the duallys to ride even.... almost1.5 inches! So the worker gets the new rubber and the WHrat WHrecker gets the old stuff... as it should be! Will be swapping fronts too when I get a chance.

 

Not sure on paint for spacers yet. No paint was sacrificed in the making of this beauty. Not sure I want to break with that standard...

Agree though it would look cool!
