pacer 3,177 #5 Posted August 12, 2019 Make sure you clean out the hex recess really good to make sure the Allen seats all the way in, these things can sometimes get really stuck and you want to make sure it doesnt slip! 4
WHX?? 51,778 #6 Posted August 12, 2019 Carefully raise the front of the tractor up there is a cup or so of oil ahead of the "hump". Let us know what comes out to see if you need to flush or not.

squonk 43,843 #12 Posted August 12, 2019 Funny engine drain story. I replaced the engine in my 1267. I wanted to change the oil before the Steam Pageant. I looked and no drain pipe out the left side. Hmmm I can't believe I didn't put a pipe on it Oh Well ordered a 3/8" brass street elbow a pipe and cap. Go to put it in and it has an old oil level sensor in the block. Take it out and it's 1/2 " pipe. Go back to the store and get a bushing and finish up. Sitting at the show I look over at the tractor and there is a 3/8 square head plug on the right side of the engine already!

WHNJ701 4,165 #16 Posted August 12, 2019 just use a vise grip to get it out and get s new replacement plug
lynnmor 7,824 #17 Posted August 12, 2019 If the vice grip doesn't work, you can make a tool from an allen wrench one size larger, just grind it so that the tip tapers down to the original size. Cut off the other leg and then use it like a punch, hammering it in the knackered hole, then turn out the plug with it.
rjg854 12,209 #18 Posted August 12, 2019 I just had that same problem, and @squonk let me borrow his socket easy outs. Easy peasy !!

If you have compression indication coming out of the carburetor the intake valve may be stuck open.
Pullstart 66,826 #21 Posted August 13, 2019 but the good news is that a head gasket is cheap and it might be all the parts you need to unstick the valve! That, and some elbow grease, and patience!
peter lena 9,279 #22 Posted August 13, 2019 now that i know what you are trying to do, get a 6" PIPE WRENCH ,solidly secure the tightening ring, maybe with channel lock pliers so that the bite or grip on the plug is solid, NO BOUNCE OR MOVEMENT, now use a 3 lb hammer to drive against the back of the wrench. making the wrench bite and the solid drive against it , will make that plug move. when you get it out , go to the hardware store and get the same size plug, with EXTERNAL DRIVE, so you don,t repeat the problem , pete
WHX?? 51,778 #23 Posted August 13, 2019 Or if you get the plug out re-pipe with nipples and a cap as Steve suggested. Another suggestion might be to drill the plug through and use standard easy outs. Might get a little messy but?? Sorry about the transmission confusion Ricky I just naturally thought that as you should be checking that too on this girl. I have never seen a engine with a hex drain plug like you or Mike has had.
