Vacation...finally

Recommended Posts

ClassicTractorProfessor

Finally was able to take a vacation, haven’t had a day off of wrecker call since we were up here in September, and that time we were here for a funeral so wasn’t a very enjoyable trip. Took off this whole week and spending it in Nebraska. Got here late Sunday night and haven’t left the house since, so not many :text-coolphotos: for you guys yet, but I think Mike and I are going fishing tonight and we are going to venture up into the Black Hills in South Dakota tomorrow. Angel did take a couple pictures on our way up here, so I will share those with you.130285B5-7290-4765-8F40-EC648F34968A.jpeg.54cea371afae43a10fd1fc97b4d306c9.jpeg91D87576-F279-410E-A639-F9608AEA6E6E.jpeg.139ebd37ffd0210356e48617dd29eeff.jpegD8718B00-0D13-4375-81D5-72BFDB8F51B2.jpeg.ff80365fbdcff50c85c12605c4a9b703.jpegD546B996-5076-4789-9DD2-F31F6C624F80.jpeg.1b7d1b6f1be6d966ec92067e8f0a81ec.jpeg

Also have a little predicament to solve once we get home, her brother in law just bought a new travel trailer, and is sending his old camper back to Oklahoma with me. Only problem is my pickup is only a shortbed, so now I’m faced with the decision of once we get home do I trade the truck in on one with an 8’ bed, or do I find a cheap older truck to put the camper on and just leave it loaded and ready to go. Guess it all depends on how much I plan on using it and how far away from home I plan on camping. I’ve been thinking of buying a camper for a while, as I do like camping with the family on the weekends, but it’s too hard to get the motor home ready to move when you live full time in it. Had been looking at pop up trailers, which would be perfect for my little half ton Ford, but I think this one is gonna work out even better once I get a truck big enough to haul it64612CFB-572A-4AE2-A0E5-99DA7C05A87B.jpeg.0151b8167d069ca4ba5f6cd7775cb57d.jpeg

Hey man. Have fun.

Please do send some pictures especially of the Black hills area. That's one of the places that Trina and I intend to be at some point in the next few years.

As to that truck slide in camper...

I've seen people around here buy an inexpensive 5 by 8 utility trailer and put it in that.

Works out very well... keeps it low to the ground and makes it so you have the camper ready to go whenever you want.

Not that having another truck is a terrible idea either.....

I’d be up for that...but Mike won’t give up his old truck:lol:

Probably gonna get it home, then trade the little F150 in on a similar truck, but with an 8’ bed and a 5 speed. I like my little green truck, but the shortbed and auto are two things I don’t like about it.

Should have never gotten rid of this old girl, would be perfect to just leave the camper loaded on it and use for a fishing wagon

I like that W100! Looks to be a 72-73, since it still has the gas tank behind the seat. A little rough looking, but still a good truck I'm sure.

I'd just find an older 3/4 ton 4x4 and put the camper on that. Not sure about up there, but decent trucks of that description can be had for in the $2000 range down here.

I think he said it’s a 70 model but I may be wrong...should be able to find a cheap pickup back home in Oklahoma no problem...I only give 1200 for the Ford F-150 you see in the pictures above. And the grey F250 above that I bought for 1000 from the original owner

70 was a different body style. 61-71 was the "Sweptline" body, 72-80 body is the one pictured, and the 81-93's were largely similar to the 72-80's with some changes.

For what little you paid for it, I'd hold on to it and just buy another. You can never have too many trucks.

This is true, but insurance and places to park them all is the problem. I’ve already got the 94 F150, an 88 GMC one ton, the old 79 K20, and my 04 TrailBlazer sitting at my place, as well as my motorhome and shop building...buy anymore vehicles and I’m gonna have to buy a piece of property out in the country to keep the city off my butt about them:lol:

@ebinmaine no problem at all there Eric, except for one thing...if I choose to buy property it darn sure won’t be in Oklahoma. I done decided if I buy property it’s gonna be up here in Nebraska. You can bet I’ll have more pics tomorrow, we are headed for the Hills for the day tomorrow

Buying a piece of property in the country is what I fully intend to do, and have it wooded around it so that none of my stuff can be seen from the road!

I've been in Nebraska a few times and I will admit that it is beautiful country.. But it gets really cold in the winter and I believe they have a state income tax. I think I'll stay down here.

If you happen to pass through Lincoln on your trip, stop at the Speedway Motors museum if you're into old cars at all. Very cool stuff in there.

I had a 72 D100 2 wheel drive back in my senior year of high school. It was the first year for the " new body style " but the last year for the gas tank in the cab or behind the seat

Very cool! I have a few trucks that are that body style and love them. One needs exhaust put on the 440 I put in it and another is awaiting a big block transplant as well.

I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of it on here. Nice looking truck for sure.

I feel you... A Cummins will push 20+ MPG while a big block truck will get 12 if you're lucky. I just went from a small block to a big block for simplicity sake.

No box on the GM vehicles?  Seems like one was an old wrecker, what about the other?

No they’re both just flatbeds...the 88 is going to be my service truck and the old 79 is my feed wagon/fence building truck

Right there with ya.

Trina and I are country folk for sure.

We have a great yard and forest but we have .....  Neighbors.

We'd love to be on more like 50 acres.

Love the quiet.

Well if the tailpipe is actually the single unit, and not a double that is missing one, it has a 300-6. The double tail pipes were used for the gas V8s, so 302, 351, and 460. All four of those would be "incorrect" in my opinion, for the stated usage.

The 7.3 would have had a tailpipe you can drive a Lawn Ranger up.

I'll agree with a V8 engines.... But I love the straight sixes.

I've had 302, 351, 460 in various Vehicles owned by myself and my father over the years. although they can definitely be massaged quite a lot I've never been a huge fan of any particular V8.

I like stuff that's a tiny bit unconventional.

I've had several of the Ford F-series trucks with 300-6s in them.

That and a 292 GM straight 6 are two of my favorite engines.

I would absolutely positively go get another 1992 to 1995 F series with a 300/ 5 speed in it, in a heartbeat.

Starts great. Runs great. Gobs of torque.

I had fantastic luck with those trucks.
