That thing looks mean.

 

I like how you have the rear tires into the tractor more than normal, keeping it relatively narrow overall, rather than making it super wide with normal offset wheels.

 

My lawn ranger is going to have a similar look, went with 0" offset, 8-1/2" wide wheels on the back.

It was purely accident how the wheels and tires came together in the rear... I had purchased the wheels from @953 nut at last year’s Big Show and was given these tires as payment on a family job.  Once I mounted the tires up, I started hunting for a tractor in the fleet that they might fit on :handgestures-thumbupright:

I stuck my “new” plow tires on Poppy to see how it performs.  Huge improvement over the 26x12-12’s!

I stuck a 48” plow on Poppy last night.  The front tires grab the plow at full lock, so I’ll need to get some skinnies up front for plow work.

Last time plowing with Poppy, it was running pretty iffy... then not at all.  I cleaned and checked the gap on the points, degreased the front of the engine and cleaned up the filthy spark plug.  We’re chug-a-luggin’ again!  It’s a beautiful day for tractor rides before ALL the snow melts!

I cleaned up the points and the spark plug yesterday, a big difference in run quality!  It actually runs again!

My choke cable is right on the edge of not quite opening the choke all the way, sometimes.  I need to tweak that just a tad then Poppy will be just sweet!

They dug a hole as soon as they hit snow, then I stopped.  A few tries, no further than the edge of solid ground did I get.

Yeah, without 4WD and or chains my eMax is about worthless with that particular tread pattern R4, and the rears are fluid filled, that's one reason I kept the rear blade hanging off the back. Unfortunately the tire size for this machine leaves little chance of me improving other than turfs and chains so what's the point?   Yesterday it "looked" as though you dug deeper with the "shinnies" than those,  camera angle?  That's why I asked if you sank, its funny that most likely my 520 out weighs your tractor but I stayed mostly on top of the snow while "churning" it up behind me , IDK different situations require different approaches. Another thing you can probably notice the difference on between the wide R4s and the narrow R1s is the actual tread/rubber compound the R4 being harder less flexible (because of its intended/designed use) therefore less tractive properties vs the R1 softer more flexible tread/rubber compound allowing a more tractive advantage over the longer wearing industrial type tires, just from my experiences with garden tractors in general the Cub Cadet Original my dad bought way back 1977 had those infamous "Town & Country" rear tires (fluid filled) hard as a brick but wears forever, but unless mowing on flat ground we had to ran chains year around on it until I bought a set of 6-12 R1s for it, then it was like where have these been all may younger days?

The skinny tires here are Interco UTV tires, I’d imagine the durometer would say they are as hard or harder than the R4’s.  I’d have to sink my nail into the treads to confirm that.  The R4’s are also FLAT.  There is zero air in them, front or back.  Well, the Interco’s have zero air too, but they are pressurized with fluid.

I was thinking back to my buddies and Intercom Bogger tires soft tread for digging over rocks and flipping mud, vs industrial tires designed and made to wear longer for "skid" steers loaders and backhoes, :confusion-confused:.

I modified the custom snow plow hitch into a more reasonable battery tray this morning.  I didn’t realize I’d be pulling much with this one.

 

A splash of Regal Red in a little bit and we’ll be good to go!  Up next, a new belt, engine and transmission oil change and I need to adjust the choke cable just a tickle.

Transmission is clean and happy.  This one likes to hold onto a gear while shifting, so I went with a 30 W / 90 W blend.  Hopefully it will free up the shift rails.

 
And just for some excitement, a set of 6-12’s on the rear!  Actually, my niece is staying with us for a couple days and I have a feeling the girls will be having some tractor sleigh rides with their cousin.  This will keep everyone safe from big tires.

In a quest to find some decent ‘61-‘62 steering parts for Uncle Jim and his Sidekick Dan the Pirate, (what is that on your head Jim, a toilet seat riser?) we decided to pull Poppy’s front end apart.

 This old assembly was from Putt Putt, when I upgraded to a ‘64 frame.  I drilled the steering arms and spindles out to fit a super spring 5/16” roll pin back in the day.  The rest of this steering system I tightened up as well back then.

I popped the spindles off and tapped them to fit a 3/8” bolt.  They used to have nails holding the wheels on.

 

Those things sure are worn!  Putt Putt lived a rough life before I got him, check out the weld job on the front axle beam!

@Achto Dan, these spindles are in much better shape!  Since Poppy’s front hubs are drilled all the way through, I have plenty of stock to ride on with the other ones :handgestures-thumbupright:
