Bill D 1,599 #1 Posted May 13, 2019 I was wondering if anyone had converted their Kohler over to a vacuum impulse pump using one of Brian Miller's blank off plates? I noticed that all of my neighbors tractors that have them, including my neighbors GT1100, start much easier than my Kohlers with the mechanical pumps. My GT1642 has a vacuum impulse pump built into the carb and it starts great, especially after sitting all winter. Bill
ebinmaine 63,133 #2 Posted May 13, 2019 @squonk @953 nut I know it isn't exactly what you're looking for but I'm thinking the guys mentioned above have switched over to electronic pumps.
pfrederi 17,147 #3 Posted May 13, 2019 Go electric. If the pulse pumps fail they can leak gas into the crank case and damage the engine. Get a Facet pump. 3

953 nut 51,679 #5 Posted May 14, 2019 There are two check valves in the mechanical fuel pumps om Kohler engines. After several years they begin to leak by and allow the fuel to flow back to the tank. I have gone to electric pumps on several of mine with good results. A rebuild kit is another good option. http://www.then-now-auto.com/kohler-fuel-pumps-2/
Bill D 1,599 #6 Posted May 15, 2019 Has anyone had a mechanical fuel pump fail and leak gas into the engine? I have seen this on a car before. Bill

Rebuilt the pump and changed the oil. Not much gas in the oil, but wouldn't take much to ruin a perfectly good engine.

Be sure to mount the pump low on the frame and take power from the "A" terminal of your ignition switch and install a fuse ( 5 or 10 amps) in the line.
