Docwheelhorse 2,740 #1 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) So the power is out, my Briggs and Stratton is full of 94 Octane VP Racing Ethanol free small engine fuel. Its chugging along doing its thing... went out in dark to check on it and check out the muffler---if the mufflers that hot what does the exhaust valve look like! From Google---> Iron or steel, when heated to above900 °F (460 °C), glows with a red color. The thinner the metal the more it'll do that as well. That's one reason why larger exhaust manifolds are thick. If it has an adjustable carb you can check the settings just to be sure but I wouldn't worry about it unless it glows enough to read a book by. Many of us that use snowblowers in the dark see that. Sparky-(Admin) 23,150 #5 Posted February 26, 2019 Just want to say thanks to Tony @Docwheelhorse ...Tony is my next door neighbor as some of you know...and he got my generator dragged outa my basement and hooked and running for my wife (and two cats ) while Im away on a business trip. squonk 43,819 #7 Posted February 26, 2019 Lived in my house since 88 The power at my house had been off for a grand total of about 7 hrs during that time. 1 hr. was when I put in a new service and 5 was when a drunk knocked down a pole. Maine is the most heavily forested state in the nation. We regularly experience outages. Usually just a few hours. Sometimes 3 or 4 days.
