Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any good photos of the original switch and bracket for the HL-5 light kit? Specs on switch such as manufacturer also needed.

Many thanks everyone.

I can tell you they're Cole (Hersee?) switches and have "Cole Boston" stamped on the side. It's also the same switch that was used for the early electric PTO clutch.

I don't have any other specs on them but I could get you measurements if needed.

The switch beside the tail light in this picture is NOS WH P/N 5273. The other switch is a new C-H part that is identical other than the "color"

I can't help you with a bracket or a picture, but I know that one would be easy to fabricate.

Thanks TT.

That looks like the Cole Hersee 5007.I gather that the knob color on original was the same color? What brand was the rear light?

The original knob for the HL-5 switch was ivory and the electric PTO clutch knobs were black.

The tail light in that picture is a Griffin 120 / SAE-P-62. I believe Peterson Manufacturing (PM) also made that same light.

Some of the HL-5 headlights are actually PM 401 chrome utility lights.

Just FYI- you can go to Cole-Hersee's website and use their interactive catalog or download the pdf version to look for available switches/parts . Many of the old stuff they used back in the day is still around . Once you have a part number of theirs you can get lucky sometimes finding warehouse buyers that still have stock left . I got some 3-prong ignition switches this way.

Although the pics aren't very clear, this might help.

The HL-5 is toward the bottom. These switches were used for loads of things in the sixties so should be fairly easy to find. The bracket looks easy enough to fab up.

      Hi all,

i bought this 1961 701 in fall of 2018 and restored it. I completed it in fall of 2019 and I wanted to show some pictures of before during and after I got it done. I did my research and tried to make this tractor as close to original as possible. The few exceptions are tires, wiring and the steering support. Not a perfect tractor but sure is nice enough for me.

If anyone has a HL-5 Headlight setup on their Wheel Horse I would appreciate some help on getting the dimensions of the u-shaped pipe/tubing that the headlights attach to.

I decided that I can make a couple sets for our Lawn Rangers by using conduit and steel plate. I have some chrome headlights that will work with no probelm to the tubing.

The location of the muffler/exhaust on the tractor suggest the length of the tubing and angle has to be under ten inches to avoid any problem being close to the heat of the muffler and exhaust pipe.

Any help with this information would be appreciated.

Added the first replica HL-5 today on the 653, the first of a couple of dozen in the works. They are not connected yet, working on a bracket for switch.
