Congrats on the purchase!  If you haven’t already, I’d suggest checking out that front axle pivot pin.  You’ll need to jack up the tractor by the frame to check for slop.

Split some wood today and the C-121 was on log splitter hauling duty.

Picked up some HEAVY Bolens front cast iron weights. They had "BOLENS" cast into the face, so I filled them with some JB Weld.

Decided while I was painting them, that my JD rear weights needed to be red too! Now all my iron weights are red. Just one set of plastic fronts are the odd-balls now.

 

 

 

Started doing a little prep work for an upcoming parade in our local festival.

Replaced both axle seals and brake shaft seal on C160, and thanks to @rmaynard glued up a new brake band for same tractor. Hopefully get put back together tomorrow or maybe this evening.

@sqrlgtr  absolutely  love  functional  detailing , thats  where you find the  hang ups , regular  for me is , MAKING  A CHANGE , TO WHAT FAILED ? typically  its  lubrication , and set up , ever shimmed up the PTO , lever  start point ? battery tray side , that literally  shows you the way. ,    every  stage , enhanced , what a difference , pete

Finally got a chance to put C160 back together today. New brake lining, and painted brake drum and band. Got my new to me late model 1 1/8” two set screw hubs installed thx to @76c12091520h and @richmondred01 for da hubs and @rmaynard for brake lining. Made a drill guide so I could spot drill a place for the 2nd set screw on axle and worked out great. I feel a little better with the xtra set screws since Im running loaded tires and wheel weights now .

A lot of industrial equipment has the shaft countersunk like that.

Really helps hold things in a proper location.

It definitely made a difference on my own 1974 C160-8 Cinnamon Horse. 

I run it VERY heavy ALL the time and on rough ground.  

 

Single set screws would loosen after a few weeks.

This is first set of hubs that I have ever had with 2 set screws besides the ones that came on the 2 520's I acquired a few months back. These hubs are a lot beefier than the older star type one set screw type, I figured the dimple would work better than trying to grind a flat on the axle. I got to thinking they needed a dimple or flat on axle for future disassembly. I will tell on myself though; I was so tickled with my hubs I forgot to put brake drum and band back on before driving around the barn . Funny as heck though when I went to stop and no brakes..

Finally pulled the motor from Ole Rusty. Now in the process of swapping parts before re-installing the Craftsman transplant.

  Had the frame/supports/rails welded on my C-145 Auto today. The plan is to use it this winter for snow plowing. While it’s apart I’ll power wash it and get the trans fluid and filter swapped out. 
  Then install the frame to transmission supports that I bought from @ri702bill .

I don't know if I have ever got a machine that wasn't at least cracked here.

If I was to say what the weak link is on these machines it is here.

Fortunately it does not cause any great harm as the machines run along just fine like this but like Sparky, I just can't leave it and get them welded up.

At the very least, installing a nice thick fender washer underneath when bolting the front fender bracket into place should help spread the load and possibly stop it from cracking again.
