Fires up almost instantly now and the fuel pump I removed seemed very healthy but would take forever to crank if mochine set for any length of time. Our experience was that the fuel pump was fine once the engine was running but the check valves let fuel drain back when unused so a full-time electic pump seemed like overkill. After more than a week's downtime, a couple of squeezes on the outboard motor-style bulb we added, before hitting the starter, does the trick. I agree with revisiting the screw head colors. They’d bug me too! 😁

I also used the marine primer bulbs for many years and they are effective in repriming the fuel pump. The fuel drain down problem is a result of both of the fuel pump check valves failing to seal properly. This can only get worse and the pump will eventually fail to supply a good fuel supply to the carb. With the price of a good primer bulb and a good e- pump comparable in price, When my primer bulbs start to harden and crack, I now replace them with an e-pump. 1

I use an Attwood primer bulb. They run about $18 - $25. What fuel pump are you using that's comparable in price and proven reliable?

Desko 664 #26385 Posted 10 hours ago Here’s some up close pictures of the 520. I spent some of the morning draining/flushing fluids and went to Walmart for some cheap 10w30 and a LX16 oil filter for the unidrive so I can run it and flush it and not waste an expensive hydraulic filter but it will be getting good oil and a hydraulic filter from Deere as they’re the most reasonably priced filter I’ve found. The fuel tank is out baking in the sun trying to dry up all the varnish in it so I can scrub it out better. This harness has also been cut into at the fuse box and jumped out that will get cleaned up and repaired along with the 9 pin that I will replace with deutsch connectors. While looking around it I seen that the steering support has been for lack of better words welded but it’s holding so it might stay like that for now and the bevel gears for the steering has seen better days but it doesn’t look like it’s been greased a whole lot and the weight of the loader probably didn’t help matters. @WHX?? on my other onan powered wheel horses I’ve usually gotten away with a good cleaning and compressed air through the jets but but as handy don said there’s a jet behind a welch plug on the muffler side of the carb that you have to remove to clean. My other 520 actually needed the accelerator pump rebuilt to stop it from surging. @ebinmaine nothing crazy just the lower panel for the dash tower which I’ll probably make at work along with the grip tape for the foot boards and some other odds like the vacuum gauge that’s broken.

They're less expensive. But are they the identical technical spec? I don't have good access locally to either Wix or JD filters so either way it's an online purchase. The prices are within a few dollars.
Fj40z 172 #26389 Posted 8 hours ago The C160-8 got a fresh oil change, spark plug, pressure washing then a light rub down with some fluid film. It’s out basking in the sun now. 2

Thegearhead0324 1,621 #26391 Posted 8 hours ago Yesterday I took the gt-14 intake elbow off my 1257, then sprayed the air cleaner white, then realized how bad it looked so I stripped all the paint back off and repainted the air cleaner lid red again. Today while I was at it I painted my ignition coil and bracket since it’s now visible. I got asked about hubcaps on my wide wheels. Since I took them off to try and polish them, I took a picture of the inner wheel weights that the hubcaps hide. If it weren’t for them I’d probably leave them off for that deep dish look. 1

Yes I tried some white on the lift lever bracket on my 857 and it stunk. Red was so much better looking to my eye anyhow. @Thegearhead0324 how wide are your wheels and what size rubber are you running on them? Also, what brand are those wheel weights? Apologies if Ive asked b4 but if i did I forgot what you told me. Thanks.
Thegearhead0324 1,621 #26393 Posted 3 hours ago @sqrlgtr No apologies needed, it’s funny because at the WH show is when I got asked about my setup by quite a few folks. The wheels are about 11 inch wide lip to lip, the tires are Carlisle tru power 26-12-12. I have the weights pictured in the wheels and I also have weights behind the wheels, but I forgot what brand they are from, I’m sure I can look thru the binder and find out somehow.

I'm Jonesin for a set of ags to go on a 520H I been tinkering with and really thinking about 26x12x12's. I really don't need them, got a good set of turf tires on it but they are 23x10.50's but they are a true 23's. Just like the looks and performance of the ag tires better especial with the 5 rib fronts that's on it. I have some 24x12's ags that I may rob off another mochine just to see how tight I think the 26's will be before ordering a set. Thanks again fer info. Your 26's sure suit that 1257.

Thegearhead0324 1,621 #26396 Posted 3 hours ago @sqrlgtr I appreciate that, thank you. The seat pan on mine was resting in the tires when I mounted them, I made a brace under the seat pan and modded the seat lift latch so it would still catch so I don’t fall off riding around. I thought about going 5 rib on mine for the front but it was too late when I already ordered the tri-rib.
Thegearhead0324 1,621 #26397 Posted 3 hours ago @ebinmaine Yes that sounds about right, I’m a little brain foggy since I did the weights around 8-9 years ago.
sqrlgtr 3,109 #26398 Posted 3 hours ago @Thegearhead0324 @ebinmaine garden tractor or farm tractor "cub"?
Desko 664 #26399 Posted 2 hours ago @ebinmaine agreed! The Deere filter is rated at 16 micron, the Napa 1410 is rated at 21 micron and the OE toro/WH filter is rated at 10 micron from what I could find. Arguably the OE is the best to put on but no toro dealers nearby. It might have changed by now though but the last time I changed filters on my 416H the hydro filter from JD was something like $12 where the Napa was around $25 @Handy Don I wish I could take credit for the fence wire holding it together but it was like that haha definitely will have to get a new roll pin before it gets use! I should have gotten a better picture with them cleaned off but the teeth will jump if you get the wheels in a bind. Maybe I’m wrong in thinking but there’s shims underneath the big gear that I can take out to tighten them up a bit?
